Sometimes life gives you lemons. Sometimes, life gives you a mortally wounded man suffering from multiple layers of crushing PTSD, all while you’ve got your own problems.

A little late, but it’s still Tuesday, so here we are!

I’m having so much fun with expressions and body language. There’s so much to show! I wouldn’t claim to be good at it (I’m not that good at body language in real life, much less drawing. I voluntarily wore a mask longer than I was required to when I was a barista in 2020/2021 because it meant I didn’t have to worry about what customers thought about my thinking face).

Also, I don’t know what the light’s doing, I’ll fix it next draft.

It’s exposition time!

Pacing is really challenging for me here, because for me, Ichiro has been naked under a blanket for over a month, and it really should be time for him to put some clothes on. For someone reading the comic all the way through, it would take a few minutes to read a month’s worth of work.

This is why I need reader feedback. Comments are open! I promise I don’t bite.

Nobody panic! We have two protagonists actually having a conversation!

I may have forgotten Ichiro’s scars in the last panel. My policy is that once I hit “export” (to turn the Photoshop document into a JPG), I don’t go back and make changes. All those edits are for when the first draft is done.

Hi, I’m back.

Sorry for the schedule disruption! I got my antibiotics and feel much better.

Ichiro is awake and still very depressed, as the thumbnail above would suggest, so be ready for that when you find the page below:

Time for Ichiro to wake up and get the plot moving.

I liked this page up until Panel 4, which utterly defeated me. I know it looks bad. His arms don’t make any sense. His head is simultaneously too big and too small. Unfortunately, what it would take to fix it will take more time than I have, so here it is. Please don’t make fun of me too badly.

We’re letting Ichiro convalesce for one more page.

Hey, it’s been like two pages without any blood!

Physically, our boy has been patched up as much as he’s going to be, but emotionally…not so much.

Also, don’t forget about the Spooky Frog Horror Book Fair at the Sheraton Brookfield tomorrow, 11-4!

Things I’ve learned about comics, fifty pages in:

  • Block shadows cover a multitude of sins.
  • If you make the figures bigger, you don’t have to draw as much background.
  • The panel will never be perfect, and with one to one and a half hours to dedicate to each one, it’s more important to get it done.

Patching up continues, with the full page to be found below:

Patching-up time.

I am very proud of myself for finishing this page today, because today was also for cleaning, grocery shopping, and cooking in preparation for my baby’s FIRST BIRTHDAY PARTY. Where did this year go? Anyway, she’s the best and tomorrow she gets to try chocolate cake.

The full page is below, and it does contain some blood, as expected, and some medical stuff (stitches, evidence of long-term hunger), if that bothers you.
