Managed to get one (1) panel (of seven) done today, so I’ll finish up this page over the weekend and post it on Tuesday. We should be back on our regular Tuesday/Friday schedule after that, possibly with one disruption for May Day solidarity? Thanks so much for your patience.
I know, I really should have more of a backlog, and it’s really not recommended to go into a serialized project like a webcomic without most of it done already. I have already written three books by staying minutes ahead of my posting schedule, so don’t worry, there’s no reason to believe that I’ll leave the comic unfinished.
Hi. I realize it’s Wednesday, and this page is a full day late. I was perfectly well set up to get it done yesterday when I got an email that it was time to reapply for my baby’s health insurance. I figured I’d do it and not have to think about it later. Turns out, the application doesn’t save if you log out partway through! It took three attempts, plus another two attempts to upload FOURTEEN proof documents, and two entire hours I was planning on using for drawing and formatting text.
Then the storms hit and my husband almost got stranded at a very important meeting for very important people who did not take the tornado and flood warnings seriously.
We are all okay, the application is done, and here is the page. Now that I’m behind, I’m going to try to get the next page out on Friday, but I may have to cut my losses and bump it to the following Tuesday. I’ll let you know tomorrow.
Full page is below! Warning for implied and direct threats of violence.
Good morning! The world is cursed, but the sun is shining, and we’re still here.
New pages of Last Watch Before Dawn this week, as per usual.
Mark your calendars for the Kenosha Book Festival on April 26! I’ll be there, and so will some more fantastic local and indie authors, from 10 until 3 in the parking lot outside Studio Moonfall, 5031 7th Ave, Kenosha, WI. From 11 until 1, there will be storytime for kids with Belle from Beauty and the Beast. There will also be a food truck, but I don’t know what it is off the top of my head. I’ll post more about it as we get closer to the date.
After that, I’ll be doing another What the Hex on May 3, and another Spooky Frog Horror Book Fair on May 16.
We’re still in the mistlands for a bit, so have some uncanny flora and fauna!
Because all my readers are unusually smart and perceptive, I’m taking the approach of not using text to explain pretty much any of the worldbuilding. I think the journey of discovery will be a fun challenge for all of us.
Some disturbing imagery in the video, just so you know.
Hi. It’s Monday again.
If you’re in Wisconsin, please turn out tomorrow for the Supreme Court election! myvote.wi.gov has all the information you need about your registration, polling place, and ballot.
The new chapter of Last Watch Before Dawn began last week, so we’ll be continuing with that this week. I usually draw when my baby naps–on my chest, which is good for her getting a nice long nap in, but not great for my posture. I’m teaching her to nap on her own this week, so I hope you’ll be patient if comic pages are a little delayed. Right now she’s sleeping soundly, so we’re off to a good start.
At the end of the month, I’ll be going to the Kenosha Book Festival again! Sunday, April 26, from 10 until 3, at the parking lot outside of Studio Moonfall, 5031 7th Ave., Kenosha, WI. See you there!
A note: I always try to remove UTM tracking tags from any links I post. If I’ve missed some, please let me know. I think we don’t need to be tracked everywhere we go online.
That’s all for now. Stop by again soon! And don’t forget to vote!
Some concept art for this chapter’s bonus! Here’s a preview, and you can see the rest by becoming a paid member on Patreon ($3/month) or purchasing it separately ($3 one time). Regular comic pages will resume Friday.
The newsletter is going out tomorrow. Brooke has a new pack of cards for you, and I’m going to an event in April, and there will be cat pictures in there also. If that’s something that interests you, put your email in the box at this link, then check your inbox for a confirmation.
We’ve concluded the third chapter of this volume of Last Watch Before Dawn! There will be two more. Bonus art will go up tomorrow, and then we’ll start the next chapter on Friday. Now’s a good time to get caught up if you’ve been waiting. Here’s the table of contents.
This page had seven panels in my outline, and I decided to pare them down–partly to make less work for me, and partly to make the page less busy and have more room for text. There’s actually text on this page!
Bonus art next Tuesday, and then we’ll start the new chapter on Friday.
Warnings for blood, a severed head, and what I would describe as setting-appropriate passive suicidal ideation. Things will improve in the next chapter, I promise.
