Last Watch Before Dawn: Volume 1, Page 85

Thumbnail of Panel 2, described below.

This is it! The last page!

I have so much more work to do to get it ready for publication, starting with giving the library an unreasonable amount of money to print the whole thing out so I can take editing notes, but for now, join me in celebrating! I drew a whole comic! Twelve-year-old me with her collection of drawing books (it was the era before YouTube tutorials) would be so proud.

I’ll be working on editing for probably the next month or two. After that, I’m starting a new book (more on that later) and planning Volume 2. Thanks for sticking with me until the end, and I hope you continue to do so! I have lots more of this story that I’m excited to show you.

Image description:

A two-panel, black-and-white comic page.

Panel 1: We turn back to our four protagonists, standing outside the back door of the teahouse. A faint rim of light shines from around the door, casting a little bit of edge lighting on the figures. Ichiro turns toward the teahouse and the goings-on within. Resunotek, still holding the cricket cage, starts to turn as well. Tanki, standing in the back, looks down at Kazu. Kazu smiles, perhaps covering nervousness.

Kazu: Well, no need to tarry out here in the weather. Lead on, my lord.

Panel 2: We see the alley from above, with five sets of footprints leading down and to the right. The snow has grown thicker in the air. The buildings–the teahouse and three others–are dark in contrast. The teahouse and one other emit slim lines of light from shut doors. A sixth set of footprints, this one tiny, follows the alley from the upper left of the panel to the lower right, where the cat is following our protagonists at a leisurely pace.

Caption: To be continued…
