Last Watch Before Dawn: Volume 1, Page 46

Thumbnail of Panel 1, described below.

Our heroine is in Peril again.

I managed to cut two entire panels out of this page, mostly because my outline has the bandit leader drawing his sword like three or four times? He doesn’t even have a scabbard. I don’t know what I was thinking. (Probably not much, because I’m pretty sure I was working on this bit either shortly before or after giving birth.)

Also, don’t forget about the Kenosha Book Festival this weekend! 10-3 at 5031 7th Ave, Kenosha, WI. See you there!

Warning for said peril, though it is short-lived, and some more blood.

Image description:

A four-panel, mostly black-and-white comic page.

Panel 1: The bandits have seized Resunotek. The first bandit places the end of his broken sword under the edge of her bug-eyed hood. The second bandit, having let go of his spear, pries the knife out of her right hand. The third has grabbed her left arm and uses his other hand to hold his knife and pull on the straps of her pack. The first bandit looks smug, while the others are grim and determined.

Panel 2: A close-up of the first bandit’s face. His expression has gone slack, his pupils contracting. An arrow has struck him in the neck, passing cleanly through. Blood sprays from its entry and exit points.

Panel 3: A close-up of Resunotek in her hood, mirroring the previous panel. Blood has spattered across the face of the mask and its glassy eyes.

Panel 4: The bandits have dropped Resunotek, and she crawls away from them toward the viewer. The first bandit lies in the foreground, and we can see the arrow’s fletching is striped in black and white. It protrudes out of the top edge of the panel. Blood has soaked through his collar and onto the ground. The second bandit kneels down to pick up his spear, shielding his face with his other arm. The third bandit is seen from the waist down as he turns to face the direction from which the arrow came. His feet, like his hands, are wrapped in rags, and his toes protrude out onto the snow.
