Last Watch Before Dawn: Volume 1, Page 69

Thumbnail of Panel 4, described below.

Two more pages in this chapter. I have enjoyed the comparatively lesser amount of work that four-panel pages represent as compared to eight-panel ones.

Also, someday I will get the sword on the shoulder to look right, but not today.

Image description:

A four-panel, black-and-white comic page.

Panel 1: It’s night now, with a dark overlay over all the panels of the page. The fire has burned down to a few embers, which cast weak spots of bright light on the ring of stones around them, the cooking pot overturned nearby, the tent, and Ichiro, sitting with his knees drawn up and the blanket around him, his sword propped up against his shoulder. Resunotek sticks her head and one arm out of the tent, holding back the flap with her visible hand.

Resunotek: It’s getting dark.

Panel 2: A closer shot of Ichiro, in the dark. He glances up. His eyes shine bright in the ember light.

Ichiro: I’ll keep watch.
I’m feeling much better.

Panel 3: A closer shot of Resunotek in the tent, her eyes also bright.

Resunotek: I still need to check your bandage.

Panel 4: Inside the tent, Ichiro has undressed to the waist. He faces away from the viewer, his back almost straight as he turns to look over his shoulder, his hands in his lap, and his legs crossed. Underneath him is the edge of the straw cloak, spread out on the tent floor. A wedge of light from the tent’s opening falls over him. A bandage is wrapped around his abdomen, at the bottom of his rib cage. He is still painfully thin, but perhaps a bit less so than when Resunotek first found him.

Resunotek (off-panel): It’s too cold for you to be outside at night. And a fire will only attract more bandits.
