Things I’ve learned about comics, fifty pages in:
- Block shadows cover a multitude of sins.
- If you make the figures bigger, you don’t have to draw as much background.
- The panel will never be perfect, and with one to one and a half hours to dedicate to each one, it’s more important to get it done.

Ichiro: Father, wait–listen–
Panel 2: While Ichiro sleeps wrapped in the blanket on top of the straw cloak, Resunotek sits cross-legged beside him, holding her steaming cooking pot in one mitten. With her other hand, she adds more herbs to the concoction inside.
Ichiro: Listen…
Panel 3: A closer shot of Ichiro’s face. One of Resunotek’s hands holds his head up, and the other tips the pot into his mouth. It has cooled down somewhat, as it emits less steam, and she holds it without a mitten.
Resunotek (off-panel): Come on now, drink.
Panel 4: Slightly closer as Ichiro swallows painfully, his face screwing up and a little broth trickling out of the corner of his mouth.
Resunotek (off-panel): Good boy.
Panel 5: Resunotek gets into the makeshift bed beside Ichiro, propping herself up on her elbows and regarding him flatly. He’s asleep, with the blanket pulled up to his mouth; we’re looking at the top of his head from the back of the tent.
