An eight-panel, black-and-white comic page.

Panel 1: Resunotek, dressed in her straw cloak and carrying a cylindrical basket on her back, closes the heavy doors to the egg barn. She is very small in front of the doors. Snow swirls around.

Panel 2: Zooming out slightly and panning to the left, we see Resunotek’s tiny figure make her way up a set of stairs carved into the wall, leading up from the platform outside the big doors. More snow is in the air.

Panel 3: The snow continues. On the stairs, she passes by four other young women, and leans out into the rope guard to allow them to get by. The jagged edge of the cliff, under the stairs, juts out into a cloudy sky. The four others walk in single file against the rock face. The first has shoulder-length dark hair, stirred by the wind, and a tattooed smile; she carries a basket. The second has a topknot and no tattoos and carries a roll of fabric. The third and fourth are tattooed and have shoulder-length hair; the third wears a fabric cap on her head and the fourth carries a basket.

Panel 4: The third and fourth of the young women, now past Resunotek, turn to look at her. She is in the foreground, hands folded in her mittens, with a sideways glance. She’s aware of the other girls’ gazes, and they make her uncomfortable. Each person’s breath clouds the air, and there is more snow.

Panel 5: The snow has stopped. Resunotek reaches the top of the stairs and a stretch of snowy ground on the top of the cliff. The path in front of her is packed down with footprints. A pair of posts frames the path leading to the stairs, and Resunotek reaches out with her right hand to use the post on that side to pull herself up.

Panel 6: The shrine building, with its shoji door and pillars carved with a moth/butterfly motif, stands in some low drifts of snow. Resunotek stands in the foreground, facing away from the viewer. In the darkened doorway of the building, the abbess, a woman with white hair, long pointed ears, and the same facial tattoo, stands with her hands tucked into her sleeves. On the step below her, four young girls line up, all wearing straw cloaks and fabric boots. The first has a topknot and faces away from the viewer, the second has chin-length hair stirred by the wind and she looks off to the left, the third (very small) has a ponytail sticking straight up and her arms outstretched, and the fourth (the tallest) looks back toward Resunotek. She has a partial tattoo on her upper lip.

Panel 7: Resunotek bows to the abbess, her hands folded in front of her. Behind her, the sky is cloudy and gray.

Panel 8: A closer shot of the abbess, framed by a section of shoji door on the right and the dark doorway on the left. She favors Resunotek with a kind, if somewhat dismissive, smile. Her face is creased with the evidence of a long life.
