A five-panel, black-and-white comic page.

Panel 1: Resunotek climbs a ramp across the vertebrae of the skeleton embedded in the cliffside, going from the platform where she was sweeping the cocoon barn to a second platform with a roof and a shoji door. The wind blows her straw cloak around her. She is very small against the cliff face.

Caption: It’s both a promise to the family that might one day be yours…

Panel 2: Resunotek descends the stairs from the platform down to another one, with a fence made of rope and a pair of large wooden doors covering a cavernous opening. The view is similarly zoomed out.

Caption: …and a simple statement of fact.

Panel 3: From inside, we see one of the wooden doors open out onto the platform. Snow swirls through the opening, and the rope fence bends in the wind. Resunotek lights a round paper lantern, one hand underneath it and the other holding the handle on top. The wind stirs her straw cloak and her hair. Beside the door, in shadow, are four large hooks on the wall and a basket with a carrying strap sitting on the floor.

Panel 4: In the foreground, Resunotek faces away from the viewer, holding the lamp at eye level with her right hand. Her messy braid falls a short way down her back, and we can see the woven pattern of the tattoos on her arm. She faces a wall of small cubbies, three high and nine across, and each one contains a round, green-tinted egg. The lantern casts a sphere of bright white light, driving back the room’s heavy shadows.

Caption: For now, your children are the shrine’s precious eggs…

Panel 5: From behind one egg, we see Resunotek approach the cubby with her light. The egg is translucent green, and inside is a developing caterpillar with huge, black eyes and stubby legs, floating upside-down and curled in on itself. Resunotek holds the lamp, her hand above her head, and looks at the egg fondly.

Caption: …and the caterpillars they’ll become in the spring.
