Listen, we need the man to be miserable so that it will have more weight when things get better.
This four-panel page was a nice gift from my past self to my present self. I have a bunch of pages with seven or so panels coming up.
This is the penultimate page of this chapter. The last one will be up on Friday. On a related note, I’ve now noted the chapters in the Table of Contents on the Stories tab above (under the Menu if you’re on mobile).
Warnings for blood, general misery, and a severed head.

Image description:
A four-panel, black-and-white (and red) comic page.
Panel 1: A closer shot of Ichiro’s face, showing a kind of flat surprise. Blood loss has made him disoriented, and he continues to look unwell.
Panel 2: He arrives at the spike with the jito’s head on it and drops to his knees facing it. The dead eyes of the jito gaze out over his head. Blood stains the spike and the snow beneath it, as well as Ichiro’s clothes and the snow underneath him.
Panel 3: The shadows around the ruined estate deepen, and he curls up on the ground underneath the spike, bowing his head and wrapping his arms around his knees. The edges of the image darken.
Panel 4: Still curled up, Ichiro is lying in the snow, seen from above. The top of the severed head is also visible. Blood spots the ground. The edges of the image darken, leaving a circle of light and snow around the figures.
