I wouldn’t say I’m getting better at formatting text in Photoshop, but I am getting faster.
I did a panel with a detailed shot of the clan jito’s face on this page, and I’m considering leaving him in shadow when I do edits and redraws? Ichiro would definitely experience him mostly as a shadowy figure; this isn’t a close, affectionate family. Let me know what you think.
For the page I’m working on right now, a couple ahead of this one, I need to get one panel done per baby nap for the rest of the week. Wish me luck!

Image description:
A five-panel, black-and-white comic page.
Panel 1: A close up of the jito’s face in his antlered helmet. He has a scar at the edge of his right eye, going down to his cheek, and a goatee beard streaked with white. He looks similar to Ichiro and Tarahito.
Jito: It’s still dark. Good.
We’ll reach the Satake estate before sunrise.
Panel 2: Borderless, in the background of the other panels. Ichiro, his father, and a third samurai sit in a row, listening to this speech. Ichiro sits up straight; he still has a welt on his face from being struck. Tarahito has his head down and looks quite ill. The other samurai sits with his arms folded. He’s a little older than Ichiro, and is also scarred on the right side of his face.
Panel 3: The jito in shadow again. He places his two-handed sword on his lap.
Jito: After thirty years of their slights and schemes, we’ll remove them from this land at last.
Panel 4: A closer shot of Ichiro and the previously unseen man to his right (our left). This is a slightly older samurai who is missing half an ear, and he has a lean, hungry look about him. Ichiro regards him with a blank, listening face.
Samurai: And we’ll finally have revenge for Shoichi.
Panel 5: The jito in profile, still in shadow, his sword drawn and held out straight in front of him. It’s a pattern-welded, single-bladed cutting sword, approximating a tachi.
Jito: We’ll break down their gate while the fools are still abed.
