Last Watch Before Dawn: Volume 1, Page 26

Here it is!

I’ll probably have to redraw the last panel when I get ready for publication, but I was just so tired of looking at the various men that I kind of just slapped them in.

Still kind of depressing below the cut, but certainly much better than it has been:

Image description:

A four-panel, black-and-white comic page.

Panel 1: A country house in the snow, framed by bare trees. This is a much finer house than Ichiro’s, but it’s still very rural in character, with a thatched roof, wooden beams, and shoji doors. One armored man stands in front of the center door, beside the right-hand pillar. The path leading up to the house and the steps up to the door are marred with wet footprints. In the lower left of the image, three large deer are saddled and bridled and tied to a simple fence. Two of them have tall antlers that curve inwards.

Panel 2: The shoji door opens, and a servant in a shabby kimono kneels beside the open doorway.

Panel 3: Ichiro’s father walks up onto the front porch, fists clenched and face frozen in a grimace. Ichiro stands a couple paces behind, on the muddy ground, offering an arm to help his father up the steps.

Panel 4: Inside, the samurai of the clan gather, lit by the open doorway. At the center is the jito, wearing a helmet with the same antlers as the deer outside, though one is broken off. He is wearing a pair of o-sode (large, flat shoulder armor). The others are dressed in variations of the same armor Ichiro, his father, and the jito wear, though no others have horned helmets. They sit in rows facing each other, creating an empty aisle leading up to the jito, and are mostly in shadow.
