I’ve been having fewer crashes! Did I get a Windows update that actually made things better?
Here begins the third chapter (of five) of the first volume. Fair warning: last chapter was dark, this one is significantly worse. It’ll start looking up a bit after this.

A five-panel, black-and-white comic page.
Panel 1: A small house with a thatched roof and a shoji door, surrounded by dark trees and drifts of snow. The sky is dark gray, suggesting it’s night or early morning. There are holes in the thatching and the paper in the door.
Caption: Your name is Ichiro.
Panel 2: Through the paper door, we see the silhouette of a young man in profile. One of his eyes lines up with a hole in the paper.
Caption: It is both the truth and a curse.
Panel 3: Inside the room, from above, two men sit cross-legged across from each other around a metal fire pit. The younger man has his hand on the handle of a battered teapot. The elder sits hunched on a straw mat, a teacup in both hands. Each has a heavy, two-handed sword by his side, and they wear battered breastplates, hakama, and kimono with the sleeves rolled up and tucked into equally battered bracers. The younger man wears only one bracer; he has an archery glove on his right hand instead. The floor is wood and has gaps between the boards.
Caption: You are the first and only son of a dead mother…
Panel 4: A closer view of the elder man’s hands. His nails are torn, and he has a scar across the knuckles on his right. The teacup ripples, indicating his hands are shaking.
Caption: …And a dying father.
Panel 5: From behind the elder man, we see him in shadow, and the younger man–Ichiro–lit by the dying fire. Behind him, a battered mattress lies on the floor, straw emerging from holes in its ticking.
Ichiro’s father: Sake.
