A five-panel, black-and-white comic page.
Panel 1: The face of Tomoya and one of the masked priests, turned 3/4 to the left. Tomoya has a pensive expression. He is a tall man with a topknot and long, flat ears; the priest’s mask has thin, upraised eyebrows and a third eye positioned vertically in the center of the forehead. Two thin tubes run from the priest’s forehead, behind the mask, to the back of his neck.
Panel 2: The base of the dais, showing the bottom of the Emperor’s pod in the lap of the statue. Two masked priests stand in front of the dais beside large pots with burning sticks of incense.
First Priest: Yours were not the first emissaries to be lost in the forest.
Second Priest: But the work must continue.
Panel 3: A closer view of the bodhisattva statue’s face and the Emperor’s pod. The statue and the man share a calm, meditative expression, their eyes closed. More tubing runs behind the Emperor’s chair, and tubes colored red go over his shoulders and around his arms to his wrists. One of the statue’s arms is visible, held out before her breast, a single finger extended upward.
First Priest (off-panel): His Majesty, the son of the gods, asks that you continue it.
Panel 4: Tomoya stands to the right of the panel’s center, turned slightly to the left. He holds his staff in both hands, and his eyes are looking left.
Second Priest (off-panel): With the blessing of the skies, he has seen your path.
Panel 5: A masked priest bows, holding out a paper scroll in both hands. In addition to his head, both arms each have two tubes running from the back of his hands into his sleeves.
