Making progress! There must be a better way to format speech bubbles, but I have yet to discover it.

A seven-panel, black-and-white comic page.
Panel 1: A closer shot of the emperor in his pod. He has pointed, elfin ears and long, dark hair. His eyes are closed, and his face is thin and drawn. Industrial tubing connects to the back of his unadorned throne, and two tubes run over his shoulders, colored red.
From off-panel, one of the priests: That you have experienced a loss, Lord Tomoya.
Panel 2: Tomoya bows, his head to the floor, placing his hands in front of him. He is seen from the front. One hand still holds his staff, which lies across the front of the panel.
Panel 3: Tomoya’s head and shoulders. He sits upright, but his head is still bowed.
Panel 4: The emperor’s pod, in the belly of the statue. It glows, washing out the figure of the emperor and rendering everything else in deep shadow. The faint outline of the statue’s legs, the two women giving blood below the pod, and Tomoya’s head, in the foreground, can be seen.
Tomoya: The son of the earth and sky honors us.
Panel 5: Tomoya, facing the viewer and framed from the chest up. He is very tall, with a long, thin neck. His ears are long and flat, and his hair is done up in a topknot. His eyes are large and expressive, and his brows are furrowed, giving him a troubled look.
Tomoya: It was a…regrettable error. I take full responsibility.
Panel 6: A close-up of Tomoya’s hand on his staff. His fingers wrap around the staff and draw the attached prayer beads in toward his hand.
Tomoya: I underestimated the danger. It is not a mistake I will make again.
Panel 7: A closer shot of one of the masked priests. He raises his hands, covered in his voluminous sleeves, to his chest. The mask has three eyes and raised, thin eyebrows. The edge of the tubing on the back of his skull is visible.
Priest: You were not summoned here to be reprimanded, Lord Tomoya.
