Year in Review, Part the Second

This was a rough year. The pandemic continues, as does injustice, but all hope for change has not been thwarted yet.

Here are some things I accomplished this year:

  • I started streaming again, launching the Tea and Sidequests channel.
  • My husband and I bought a house in possibly the worst market ever, and moved in June! This involved a fight with our former landlord, which is finally reaching its conclusion.
  • I completed Part One of The Book of the New Moon Door!
  • The first Reader Poll told me that the most popular next project was the sequel to Beyond the Frost-Cold Sea, so I started Journey to the Water.
  • I left my day job to focus on writing full-time.
  • As a birthday gift to me, my friends bought me an ad on the One-Shot Campaign podcast, bringing in a few more readers. (Hi there!!)
  • I officially launched my Patreon! I have five subscribers now, and I really appreciate their support.
  • During NaNoWriMo, I rewrote Beyond the Frost-Cold Sea and am now preparing it for self-publishing in January. If you missed the cover reveal, you can take a look here.
  • I continue to survive the plague (vaccinated and boosted) and fight the good fight in whatever small ways I can.

For next year, I hope to keep this going:

  • I want to publish Beyond the Frost-Cold Sea by the end of January.
  • Journey to the Water will continue, and likely finish in late 2022, at which point I will start editing it for publication as well.
  • Part Two of The Book of the New Moon Door will begin soon, probably in February after Frost-Cold Sea is released.
  • I’ve had to put my “big book,” the 500+ page manuscript I hope to traditionally publish, on hold, so I intend to un-shelve it this year.
  • I also want to start two new projects this year, one for Patreon supporters only, and another for the blog (with Patreon subscribers getting chapters a week early).
  • Lastly, I plan to expand my audience, which means publishing, being more active on social media, and continuing to write.

Happy New Year, all. I appreciate you being here.

Song of the Week

Darling Violetta, “Sanctuary” (theme from Angel)

It’s Monday again.

There are things happening in blog-land this week! First, I’ll have the latest chapter of Journey to the Water available here on Wednesday. Patreon supporters could read it a week early, so if that’s something that interests you, it’s only $3 a month!

Special thanks to Brooke Miller, Stephen Crane, Lili Crane, Jane McCreedy, and Chelsea Cheveria for supporting me on Patreon and making my work possible. I can now afford my meds on Patreon alone, which is pretty cool.

Speaking of Patreon, I’ll be holding a special Patreon Livestream this weekend! I’ll be playing a game and chatting with viewers about fantasy tropes and whatever else you want to talk about. It’s also great background entertainment for your holiday baking. I’ll have more details later this week as I finalize my schedule.

I’ll also be on Twitch tonight and possibly Saturday night, pending holiday prep.

Line edits for Beyond the Frost-Cold Sea are continuing. I’ll update you all when they’re done and let you know my next steps toward publication!

As always, thank you for reading, and have an excellent week.

Jen Titus, “O Death” (traditional, from Supernatural)

Happy Monday! I hope you are safe and warm wherever you are. We’ve had our first snowfall here. It didn’t accumulate much, but more is coming.

This week, I’ll have the next chapter of Journey to the Water available on Patreon. I’m planning on a Patreon Livestream soon as well, so stay tuned for updates on that. It’s only $3 a month, and you get livestreams, early chapters, and some other bonus content that’s in the works.

The Tea and Sidequests Channel will be streaming Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice tonight at 6pm US Central time.

Also, an update: I am partway through rewriting the last chapter of Beyond the Frost-Cold Sea! I’m hoping to finish up today, and then do final edits this week. I should have a release date soon!

Thanks for being here. Have an excellent week.

NaNo Update: The Home Stretch

12,000 words (of an estimated 80k) and 3 days to go! If you’re curious, I’m a little ways in to rewriting Interlude Four of Beyond the Frost-Cold Sea.

I’ll be on Twitch tonight streaming Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice if you want to come hang out with me.

Song of the Week

Rafferty, “Mausoleum”

Maybe I should do a bunch of spooky songs for the remainder of October?

Hello, happy Monday, I’m glad you’re here.

There will be a new chapter of Journey to the Water this week! It will be here Wednesday if I can manage it, or Thursday if I can’t.

I’ll also be streaming on Twitch this evening, playing Moon Hunters.

See you soon! Have an excellent week.

Song of the Week

Fiachra, “Óró Mo Bháidín” (traditional)

Happy Monday! Please enjoy this song, which is an Irish lullaby about a boat.

In case you missed it, the new book is called Journey to the Water, and the prologue and first chapter are available under the Stories tab above. You can also follow this link to go directly to the table of contents.

I’ll be on Twitch tonight playing Valheim, starting at 6pm US Central Time. I’d love to hang out with you in chat, so if you’re on Twitch, feel free to stop by.

Also, this is your semi-regular reminder that comments on all my posts are open. You can tell me what you think of my chapters, or just talk about whatever. I’ll be sure to respond!

Thank you and have an excellent week.

Capercaillie, “Ailein Duinn” (traditional)

Happy Monday. Things have been a little quiet around here, and I apologize for that, but we have some exciting things happening this week.

Tonight, the Tea and Sidequests channel will return! We’re going to be playing Abzû, a little game about exploring the sunken ruins of an ancient civilization, inspired by the Enuma Elish. It was made by the same people who made Journey, and it’s really quite lovely, if you’d like to join us. We’ll be streaming from 6pm until 8pm, Central US time.

Later this week, I’ll have the first chapter of the sequel to Beyond the Frost-Cold Sea. It will have a proper title by then also. I think I’m going to have to stick to an every-other-week posting schedule for the time being, as I have a number of projects I’m working on concurrently, but I hope to eventually get to one chapter a week, possibly alternating with Part Two of The Book of the New Moon Door.

For now, though, enjoy this song, join us on Twitch tonight if you’d like, and stop by later for a new chapter!

Fiona Apple, “Criminal”

Happy Monday!

Not much to report this week. I’ll be trying to finish this draft of my manuscript, so there won’t be a new chapter of The Book of the New Moon Door. Once this draft is finished, there will be new and exciting things happening, so stay tuned.

I’ll be on Twitch tonight and Saturday night, 6pm US Central.

Have an excellent week.
