Song of the Week

Simon & Garfunkel, “The Boxer”

Good morning!

It’s a new month, and I’ll be out to two new events in the coming weeks. First is the Kenosha Comic Con on Sunday, July 14, and second is the Feast of the Goat Queen on Saturday, July 27. I’ll be sure to remind you as we get closer to these dates.

Patreon readers have FOUR more chapters left of Journey to the Water before the serialized version is complete, and blog readers have five. I’ll be working at a polling place for the special election primary tomorrow, so the posting schedule will be moved forward a day: I’ll have a new chapter on Patreon on Wednesday, and last week’s chapter will be here on Thursday.

I’ll probably still be in the middle of rewrites when all the chapters are posted (roughly a month from now). My plan right now is to give you the first chapter/installment of some of the new projects I’ve been working on and hold a vote, so stay tuned.

Here’s some petitions:

Via Mercy Corps: Support families experiencing extreme hunger

Via Care Action: Countries are facing catastrophic hunger

Via Win Without War: Block offensive weapons bound for the Israeli government

Via Jewish Voice for Peace: Arms embargo now

That’s all I’ve got for you for today. Have an excellent week.

Song of the Week

In This Moment, “Witching Hour”

Good morning! It’s Monday again. I hope you can rest for the holiday.

I had a great time hanging out with the alien interns at Studio Moonfall on Friday:

A small alien with large blue eyes and wearing a red beer cozy on its head hangs upside-down next to a copy of The Book of the New Moon Door.

I was also at Graveyard Gallery’s AniMAYhem on Saturday! It was a busy weekend to conclude a busy month, and I’m ready to take a break. I think my next event isn’t until July.

In the meantime, I’ll be editing Journey to the Water. The next chapter will be up on Patreon tomorrow, and last week’s chapter will be up here on Wednesday. I hope to have a better idea of a release date soon.

Also, the newsletter will go out Friday! If that’s something you’re interested in, you can put your email in the box at this link. Be sure to check your inbox for a confirmation. It’s only one email a month and does include pictures of my cats.

Just a couple of petitions this week, because we have to keep trying:

Via Our Revolution: President Biden, the moral choice and the electoral choice are the same — CEASEFIRE NOW!

Via Win Without War: Tell universities to divest from the war industry now

Also via Win Without War: Build Pressure in Congress to Get U.S. Weapons Out of Gaza

Thanks for being here and have an excellent week.

Events this weekend!

Tomorrow, May 24th, I’ll be featured in a Meet the Author event at Studio Moonfall, 5031 7th Ave, Kenosha, WI! I’ll be there from 4pm until 7pm if you want to hang out with me, talk about books, and check out the shop. It’s a lovely place and I’m so excited to be there. Here’s a link to the Facebook event if you’d like more information.

Then on Saturday, May 25th, I’ll be at Graveyard Gallery’s AniMAYhem outside of Faklandia Brewing, 3807 S Packard Ave., St. Francis, WI. The market runs from noon until 5, and there’s a cosplay contest afterward at 6! Here’s a link for more information.

It’ll be a busy weekend to conclude a busy month. I hope to see you at one or both of these events! Then I’m going to take a break for a month or so.

Song of the Week

Burning Sister, “Get Your Head Right”

Good morning! Fun fact: Burning Sister features my cousins-in-law on drums and bass/synth/vox. I finally got around to listening to them. Please enjoy!

What the Hex: Witch of the Woods was yesterday! What the Hex is always a delightful time. The performances were great, the vibes were excellent, and the crowd was very friendly. I’m only sorry that I ran out of copies of The Book of the New Moon Door! I paid for expedited printing, but they won’t get here until Tuesday. I have a second, non-expedited order that is still at the printers, and I’m hoping it’ll be here by the end of the week.

I’ll be at Studio Moonfall (5031 7th Avenue, Kenosha, WI) on Friday the 24th from 4-7 in the evening for a Meet the Author event! Come hang out in this adorable indie bookshop with me. I’m bringing double-chocolate brownies, if that influences your decision.

On Saturday the 25th, I’ll be at Graveyard Gallery’s AniMAYhem from noon until 5. This one is outdoors at Faklandia Brewing, 3807 S Packard Ave, St. Francis, WI. I’ll have more on both these events on Thursday, so be sure to stop by again later this week.

I’ll have a new chapter of Journey to the Water up on Patreon tomorrow, and last week’s chapter will be up here on Wednesday.

Petitions for this week, because the work is never done:

Via Jewish Voice for Peace: NO to the Israel Security Assistance Support Act

Via Native Organizers Alliance: Listen to students and human rights experts

Via the US Campaign for Palestinian Rights: End the Nakba, End the Genocide

Via RootsAction: Divest from the War Industry Now

As always, I appreciate you. Have an excellent week.

Video: Bookley checks out The Book of the New Moon Door

Here’s the video for The Book of the New Moon Door! If you buy a copy from this Bookshop.org link, you can support me AND Studio Moonfall at the same time. You can also visit the shop at 5031 7th Avenue, Kenosha, WI. I’ll also be hosting an Author Night there on May 24th! It goes from 4-7 and I’ll be baking something for it. Possibly pie. Or brownies.

Video: Bookley checks out Beyond the Frost-Cold Sea

Extra special thanks to Donovan Scherer of Studio Moonfall in Kenosha! If you buy a copy of Beyond the Frost-Cold Sea from Bookshop.org, you can support me AND this lovely indie bookstore. I’ll add it to the list of retailers under the Buy my books tab.

Also note the quick cameo of The Book of the New Moon Door in the beginning! There will be another video about that book later.

May Events

Mark your calendars! If you got the newsletter on Tuesday, this is just a repeat of that.

On Saturday, May 11, Brooke and I will be at the Spring Spirit Fair at Lakeshore Lanes, 2519 S. Business Dr. in Sheboygan, WI. The market runs from 10-5, but you can come in at 9 to book appointments with the various readers and body workers. Admission is one non-perishable food item or cash donation to the Sheboygan County Food Bank. (I don’t see us on the list at that link, but we were offered a space after a cancellation).

On Sunday, May 19, What the Hex: Witch of the Woods will be at Dresden Castle, 3775 East Underwood Ave, Cudahy, WI. Doors will be open from noon until 5, and admission is $3 (I mistakenly said it was free in the newsletter). This is one of our favorite markets and is just a good time all around.

On Friday, May 24, I will be venturing back out to Studio Moonfall, 5031 7th Avenue, Kenosha, WI to host an Author Night from 4-7 in the evening. I’d love to see you there if you missed the Book Festival (or even if you didn’t). I’ll probably bring some baked goods.

Lastly, on Saturday, May 25, we’ll both be at Graveyard Gallery’s Animayhem! This pop-up market takes place at Faklandia Brewpub, 3807 S. Packard Ave, St. Francis, WI. It runs from noon until 5pm. If you have prayers, spells, etc. for good weather, please send them our way, as this is an outdoor event.

I hope to see you at one (or more!) of these events! If you have any questions, let me know, and I will do my best to find answers for you. As always, I appreciate you.

Song of the Week

Birdeatsbaby, “Mary”

Good morning!

I spent yesterday in the cold and rain at the Kenosha Book Festival. I’m glad I stuck it out, because I met some cool people and got to talk about books!

The writer, a medium-sized white woman with her hair in a braid, wears a jean jacket and a brimmed black hat. She sits behind a table stacked with books, with a banner with scenes from Beyond the Frost-Cold Sea hanging from the front.

Journey to the Water is almost finished! I have one chapter left. You, dear reader, are quickly catching up to me. I’ll have a new chapter up on Patreon tomorrow, and last week’s chapter will be here on Wednesday.

The newsletter is also coming out tomorrow. If you’re interested in that (it includes pictures of my cats, updates on what my business partner Brooke has been painting, writing updates, and upcoming events all in one place), you can put your email into the box at this link. Be sure to check your inbox afterward for a confirmation email.

I am Going Places and Doing Things in May, including an Author Night at Studio Moonfall where the Book Festival was held (in case you didn’t want to brave the cold this past weekend, and I don’t blame you). I’ll have a full post with all the information later this week (probably Thursday).

The war continues, and so do we. A couple of petitions I’ve rounded up for you this week:

Via Win Without War: US Support for Netanyahu’s war must have limits

Via Jewish Voice for Peace: Don’t attack the student movement for Palestinian rights

As always, thanks for being here. I hope you have an excellent week.

Song of the Week

Sir Sly and Lizzy Plapinger, “Inferno”

Good morning!

If you’ll be in Southest Wisconsin this weekend, the Kenosha Book Festival will be this Sunday (the 28th) from 10-3 at Studio Moonfall! For the address and more information, that link will have everything you need. I’ll be there, and a whole bunch of cool independent authors will be also.

If crowds aren’t your thing, I’ll also be at Studio Moonfall for an Author Night on May 24. More on that as we get closer to the date.

I am THREE chapters away from the end of the first draft of Journey to the Water. Gods willing and I don’t get Covid again, I’ll have that finished up this week. In the meantime, I’m still posting chapters, so you’ll get a new one on Patreon tomorrow and last week’s chapter will be up here on Wednesday. I appreciate everyone who’s taking this journey with me. At one chapter a week, it will be 3-4 months before the whole draft is posted, by which time I should be close to finishing my edits.

I don’t have very many petitions for you today, but here’s what I’ve got:

Via Demand Progress: Halt weapons transfers to Israel

Via Save the Children: Protect Sudan’s kids from conflict

Via the Friends Committee on National Legislation: Tell Congress to invest in peace

Also, it’s Earth Day! I hope you can get outside sometime today.

Thanks for being here. Have an excellent week.

Event: Kenosha Book Festival, Chapter One

On April 28 (a week from Sunday), I’ll be at the Kenosha Book Festival at Studio Moonfall: 5031 7th Avenue, Kenosha, WI. It will be open from 10 in the morning until 3 in the afternoon, and feature a slate of very cool indie authors (if I do say so myself), food trucks, and special deals. Here’s a link to the Facebook event and here are Studio Moonfall’s other events.

I was a last-minute addition, and I’m very excited to be attending! Hope to see you there!
