Song of the Week

Paris Paloma, “Labour”

Good morning!

This is a very exciting week, because Part Three of The Book of the New Moon Door is starting! The first chapter will post on Patreon tomorrow. The latest chapter of Journey to the Water will be up here on Wednesday.

I am four chapters into my sprint to the end of The Book of the New Moon Door, so wish me luck as I continue that this week.

In other news, I’ll be at the What the Hex Witches’ Market, along with Brooke of the Figuratively Speaking Tarot, on Saturday, May 6! It will be open from noon to 6pm at Falcon Bowl in Milwaukee. Here’s a link to the Facebook event, and here’s one to the Instagram page. As soon as I find out our booth number, I’ll let you know!

As always, thank you for being here, and have an excellent week.

Song of the Week

Hozier and Bear McCreary, “Blood Upon the Snow” (from God of War: Ragnarök)

You know, I’ve never played a God of War game, but this song makes me want to.

That’s going to have to wait, however, because I’m starting Part Three of The Book of the New Moon Door! I’ll post a NaNo update on Friday. The last chapter of Part Two will be up here on Wednesday. There will also be a new chapter of Journey to the Water on Patreon tomorrow.

Responses to the New Moon Door poll were sparse and mixed, so I think I will maintain the chapter-by-chapter posting schedule for now. I’ll reevaluate when Part Three is written (my goal is by the end of May), and maybe again when editing is done (late summer). If all the chapters haven’t been posted by then, I may save the ending for the published book 😉

Also, I’ll make a bigger announcement later, but I’ll be at the What the Hex Witches’ Market on May 6 at Falcon Bowl in Milwaukee! Mostly, I’ll be supporting Brooke and her Figuratively Speaking Tarot, but I’ll have a few copies of Beyond the Frost-Cold Sea to sell and sign and some bookmarks to hand out. Stay tuned for more details.

As always, thanks for being here, and have an excellent week.

Song of the Week

Eilís Ní Shúilleabháin, “A Ógánaigh An Chúil Chraobhaigh”

Happy Monday! Here’s a sad song.

I’m starting Part Three of The Book of the New Moon Door this week, but in the meantime, the last chapter of Part Two will be up on Patreon on Wednesday, and the latest chapter of Journey to the Water will make its appearance here on Thursday. The normal posting schedule is delayed this week due to the election on Tuesday, since I’ll be working at a polling place all day. If you have an election tomorrow, especially if you’re in Wisconsin, don’t forget to vote!

That’s all for this week. Stop by again soon!

Song of the Week

Donovan, “Season of the Witch”

Happy Monday!

If you haven’t voted in the New Moon Door poll, be sure to do that soon!

This week, I’ll have a new chapter of Journey to the Water up on Patreon tomorrow, and I’m working on the next episode of The Well Below the Valley, to be released on Saturday the 1st. Also, the March edition of the newsletter will go out on Friday.

Have an excellent week!

Song of the Week

Kate Rusby, “The Witch of the Westmorland”

Good morning!

Unfortunately, I was sick all last week and wasn’t able to write a new chapter of Journey to the Water, so this week we’ll just have the latest chapter of The Book of the New Moon Door up here on Wednesday. Sorry for the delay; I’ll be back on my usual nonsense next week.

Also, we are very close to the end of Part Two of The Book of the New Moon Door! I’ll be starting Part Three very shortly, but I wanted to ask you, dear reader: would you rather keep reading chapters every other week, or wait until the book is finished and published? I’ll be posting an official poll later this week, but you can also leave your thoughts in the comments.

Thanks for being here, and have an excellent week.

Song of the Week

Kostia Konstantinoff, “Sand and Water”

Good morning!

This album was a staple of my childhood, and based on the half-remembered image of a violin on the cover and something resembling the names of a couple of tracks, I finally found it again. The internet can be pretty great sometimes.

Normal chapter posting this week: The Book of the New Moon Door on Patreon tomorrow, and Journey to the Water here on Wednesday.

As a bonus, I’ll be posting an old short story (flash fiction, really) on Friday! I figured we could all use a break from the longer projects. Stop back again soon!

As always, thanks for being here, and have an excellent week.

Song of the Week

Sufjan Stevens, “Casimir Pulaski Day”

Happy Monday! Sometimes you just need a good, cathartic cry, and if that’s a time you’re experiencing, please enjoy this song.

This week’s Patreon chapter of Journey to the Water will likely be a day or so late, due in equal parts to my poor time management and my husband injuring his back (he’s okay, he just needs to spend a day or so lying flat with an ice pack). The latest chapter of The Book of the New Moon Door will post here at its usual time on Wednesday.

I think that’s all for this week! Take care of yourselves.

Song of the Week

Vivir Quintana and Mare Advertencia, “Árboles Bajo El Mar” (from Wakanda Forever)

Good morning! I’m currently playing fetch with my cat while waiting for a huge rainstorm to pass so I can do laundry (too much water overwhelms the city sewer system). I hope you are safe and warm today.

The February edition of the newsletter is going out tomorrow! You can sign up at this link (which is also at the bottom of the blog’s home page). Be sure to check your inbox for a confirmation link after that. The mailer service wants to check if you’re very sure you want to receive the newsletter.

Also tomorrow, the next chapter of The Book of the New Moon Door will be up on Patreon, and Journey to the Water will post here on Wednesday!

The next episode of The Well Below the Valley is probably going to be late (I try to get them out on the first of each month), but I should have it up by the end of the week.

I think that’s all for today. Thanks for being here, and have an excellent week!

Song of the Week

Jimi Hendrix, “May This Be Love”

Good morning!

Several states have elections tomorrow! Here’s a handy list from Ballotpedia. In Wisconsin, it’s the spring primary. Since I’ll be working at a polling place all day tomorrow, I’m bumping my chapter releases forward a day: Journey to the Water will post on Patreon on Wednesday, and The Book of the New Moon Door will post here on Thursday. Be sure to vote!

There has been an outbreak of homophobia in the online book world, so I’ll take this opportunity to inoculate this space: I’m bisexual, many of the people I love are also LGBTQ+, and I have a zero-tolerance policy for bigotry of any kind. I used to argue with people online, now I just unfollow and block. If your interpretation of religion is more important to you than treating your fellow humans with respect, then maybe that’s something you should work on in your own space.

As always, thanks for being here, and have an excellent week.

Song of the Week

Josefine Cronholm, “Close to You” (Carpenters cover; from MirrorMask)

Happy Monday! The sun is shining and the snow has melted, but it’s only a false spring. I once had a professor who had transferred from UC-Berkeley, and on the singular fifty-degree (10 degrees Celsius) day in February, he was delighted to announce that winter was over. All the native Wisconsinites had to inform him that he was about to be disappointed. Then, as now, the cold will be back with a vengeance and linger like the smell of a spoiled potato in the refrigerator.

Anyway! I’ll have a new chapter of The Book of the New Moon Door on Patreon tomorrow, and the latest chapter of Journey to the Water here on Wednesday. If you haven’t caught up on either of those stories yet, all the previous chapters are available under the Stories tab above (inside the Menu if you’re on mobile).

As always, thanks for being here, and have an excellent week.
