Song of the Week

Warren Zevon, “Werewolves of London”

This past weekend, my husband and I went to Halloween Express–but it wasn’t just a Halloween Express, it was “Halloween by Scary Jim.” I was a little disappointed in Scary Jim’s selection of candy bowls, but his music taste was excellent. “Werewolves of London” has been stuck in my head since then, so enjoy.

In case you missed it, The Book of the New Moon Door has a release date, and you have some opportunities to receive your copy as a mysterious package before the release! Click here for more information.

I’ll have new chapters this week on the usual schedule: a brand-new chapter on Patreon tomorrow, and last week’s chapter here to read for free on Wednesday.

Journey to the Water will return soon! Possibly as early as mid-November this year, but no later than January of next year. Thanks for being patient.

Have an excellent week!

Song of the Week

Florence + the Machine, “King”

Good morning!

It’s the last week of the month, which means the newsletter is coming out–noonish my time (Central US Daylight) on the 30th (Friday). You can sign up here if you haven’t already. Be sure to check your inbox afterward for a confirmation link! This month’s newsletter will include garden pictures, updates on The Book of the New Moon Door, and pictures of my cats.

There will be a new chapter of Journey to the Water on Patreon tomorrow. I’ll be back to my regularly scheduled nonsense (one chapter on Patreon, one chapter here) next week.

As always, thanks for being here. Happy Pride, and may rain fall on your garden but not your parade! Stop by again soon.

Song of the Week

Donovan, “Season of the Witch”

Happy Monday!

If you haven’t voted in the New Moon Door poll, be sure to do that soon!

This week, I’ll have a new chapter of Journey to the Water up on Patreon tomorrow, and I’m working on the next episode of The Well Below the Valley, to be released on Saturday the 1st. Also, the March edition of the newsletter will go out on Friday.

Have an excellent week!

Song of the Week

Sinéad O’Connor, “I Do Not Want What I Haven’t Got”

Good morning! It’s an Arctic day here, so I hope that wherever you are, you are safe and warm.

In other news, my household is missing its solitary vehicle, as another driver ran a red light and struck my husband when he was coming home from work on Friday. Everyone is okay, but the car is probably a total loss. We’re waiting on the insurance to tell us what happens next, which will apparently not include coverage for a rental.

If you’ve got a spare $3, and you enjoy my work, I have a Patreon and a Ko-fi. We have groceries and a bus card and the heat is on, so please take care of yourself first.

It’s the end of the month, so there will be new chapters of everything this week!

The Book of the New Moon Door: new chapter on Patreon tomorrow.

Journey to the Water: the latest chapter will be here on the blog on Wednesday.

The Well Below the Valley: Episode 9 will be posted to Patreon also on Wednesday.

Lastly, the January edition of the newsletter will go out tomorrow. If you’d like to sign up, put your email in the box at this link. Don’t forget to click on the confirmation email afterward! You can also find the newsletter signup at the bottom of the page (bottom right on desktop),underneath the Follow Blog button.

I think that’s all for today. Take care, have an excellent week, and always wear your seatbelt.

Song of the Week

Brody Dalle, “Don’t Mess With Me”

Good morning!

I’m working on the next episode of The Well Below the Valley this week, but in the meantime, there will be a new chapter of Journey to the Water on Patreon tomorrow, and the latest chapter of The Book of the New Moon Door will be up here on Wednesday.

I’ve been thinking about getting back into streaming and/or YouTube. I need to increase my reach, and it seems like people enjoy videos. What kind of content would you like to see, dear reader? Discussion of literary devices and the fantasy genre? Reading the classics so you don’t have to (putting my English degrees to work)? Interesting historical topics (particularly ones that have influenced my work and other fantasy writers)? Live chat?

Let me know your thoughts in the comments, and have an excellent week! I appreciate you.

ETA: I’ve fixed the social media buttons at the bottom of the page (they had turned invisible for some reason) and added a button at the bottom right where you can sign up for the newsletter.

Song of the Week

Sting, “Fragile”

Happy Monday! Welcome back.

I didn’t end up streaming on Twitch last week. The heat has been making me sick, and all my in-laws came up to help in the garden (thanks guys!), so I was a little burnt out. I do want to get back in the habit of doing it, so I plan to do another stream on Friday. Right now, the plan is to play the indie game Heaven’s Vault and chat about constructed languages.

In addition to that, you can expect a new chapter of The Book of the New Moon Door on Patreon tomorrow, and the latest chapter of Journey to the Water here on the blog on Wednesday. I’m also working on Episode 5 of The Well Below the Valley, in which our intrepid investigators finally travel to Oxford to find out what exactly happened on the late Professor Ragnarsson’s ill-fated field expedition.

If you’re enjoying what you’re reading here, please tell your friends about me! It’s the best way to support me, and it doesn’t involve spending any money. You can also leave a review for Beyond the Frost-Cold Sea wherever you purchased it (and I’m working on getting it added to Goodreads as well).

I appreciate every single one of you! Yes, you! Have an excellent week.

Song of the Week

Opeth, “Soldier of Fortune” (Deep Purple cover)

Happy Monday! Yesterday was Juneteenth! I hope you had a good day.

I am back on my usual nonsense: the newest chapter of Journey to the Water will be up on Patreon tomorrow, and the latest chapter of The Book of the New Moon Door will make its appearance here on the website on Wednesday. I’m also working on The Well Below the Valley, and Episode 5 will be available before the end of the month!

Please pray for my lettuce as we enter another stretch of 90+ degree days here in the midwestern swamp. (This is not a euphemism–I am growing lettuce, and supposedly it prefers cooler weather).

Anyway, climate change is real, and none of us are free until all of us are free, and time creeps inexorably onward (this song was released SIXTEEN YEARS AGO??). Have a good week, and stay safe.

Song of the Week

Kate Bush, “Waking the Witch”

Good morning! I hope you’re well, wherever you are.

There will be a new chapter of The Book of the New Moon Door up on Patreon tomorrow! Thank you for being patient as I get back to our regular posting schedule. We’ll be back to normal (one chapter on Patreon and one chapter here) next week.

If you’re a regular reader, you are probably aware that I have three ongoing projects (Journey to the Water, The Book of the New Moon Door, and the script for The Well Below the Valley), and I really don’t have time to take on more, but new ideas keep coming up! I may or may not have a space opera, a cyberpunk mystery, and possibly an urban fantasy in the works. I just want to be writing all the things, but my time management skills are not up to the task.

Please send well wishes to the lettuce in my garden, as the next three days are supposed to be over 90 degrees Fahrenheit, and if you like what you read here, tell your friends about me! When it comes to books, word of mouth is still the best, even in this digital world.

Thanks for being here, and have an excellent week.

Song of the Week

Kate Bush, “Running Up That Hill (A Deal With God)”

Believe it or not, with all the Kate Bush I’ve posted over the lifetime of this blog, I haven’t done this song yet! Also, if you haven’t watched the latest season of Stranger Things, go do that as soon as you get a chance. I’m having a bit of a hipster moment (I liked this song before it was cool!), but I’m excited that the show is creating more Kate Bush fans. She deserves it. (Also, listen to the entire Hounds of Love album. As the kids say, it’s 100% bangers.)

Good morning! Due to last week being an odd one and multiple anniversaries in my life this week (one year in our house as of tomorrow, and five years married at the end of the week), there won’t be a new chapter this week. The latest chapter of Journey to the Water will still be up here on Wednesday, so stop back then!

Have an excellent week!

Song of the Week

Evanescence, “The Chain” (Fleetwood Mac cover)

Happy Monday! Have you voted in the Reader Poll yet? I need to know if you want to receive an email newsletter.

This is going to be a typical week here in blog-land: there will be a new chapter of Journey to the Water on Patreon tomorrow, and the latest chapter of The Book of the New Moon Door will be up here on Wednesday.

Have an excellent week!
