Song of the Week

Joshua Burnside, “And You Evade Him/Born in the Blood”

Good morning!

I had a great time at the Kenosha Comic Con yesterday! Thank you to everyone who escaped the oppressive heat by stopping in our tent and saying hello.

Journey to the Water rewrites are still under way, and I’ll have a new chapter for you on Patreon tomorrow and last week’s chapter here on Wednesday. I will still be working on rewrites when the serial version finishes in a couple of weeks, but I’ve got some other stuff in the works for you, so stay tuned.

A couple of petitions today:

Via ADC: Khan Younis Massacre Kills Hundreds, U.S. Must Stop Selling, Transferring Weapons to Israel

Via Save the Children: Tell Congress to protect Food for Peace

I’m not here for political commentary, and I’d assume neither are you, so I’ll just say that no matter what happens, our job remains the same: take care of people, take care of ourselves, vote and petition where we can, and believe that a better world is possible.

I appreciate you. Take care and stay hydrated this week.

First Aid Kit, “The Lion’s Roar”

Good morning!

It’s Monday again. I’ll have a new chapter of Journey to the Water up on Patreon tomorrow, and last week’s chapter will be up here on Wednesday. In the meantime, I’m working on rewrites.

On Sunday, July 14, I’ll be at the Kenosha Comic Con from noon until 5! This takes place outside Studio Moonfall, 5107 7th St, Kenosha, WI. There will be some cool local and local-ish indie writers, artists, and comic creators, plus at least one food truck. Here’s a link to the Facebook event, if that’s easier for you. I hope to see you there!

I’ve only got a couple of petitions this week, so here we are:

Via World Beyond War: Urge Governments to Use UN General Assembly Res 377 “Uniting For Peace” for Peace in Palestine

Via Justice Democrats: Oppose the amendment to censor Palestinian casualties

Thanks for being here. Have an excellent week.

Simon & Garfunkel, “The Boxer”

Good morning!

It’s a new month, and I’ll be out to two new events in the coming weeks. First is the Kenosha Comic Con on Sunday, July 14, and second is the Feast of the Goat Queen on Saturday, July 27. I’ll be sure to remind you as we get closer to these dates.

Patreon readers have FOUR more chapters left of Journey to the Water before the serialized version is complete, and blog readers have five. I’ll be working at a polling place for the special election primary tomorrow, so the posting schedule will be moved forward a day: I’ll have a new chapter on Patreon on Wednesday, and last week’s chapter will be here on Thursday.

I’ll probably still be in the middle of rewrites when all the chapters are posted (roughly a month from now). My plan right now is to give you the first chapter/installment of some of the new projects I’ve been working on and hold a vote, so stay tuned.

Here’s some petitions:

Via Mercy Corps: Support families experiencing extreme hunger

Via Care Action: Countries are facing catastrophic hunger

Via Win Without War: Block offensive weapons bound for the Israeli government

Via Jewish Voice for Peace: Arms embargo now

That’s all I’ve got for you for today. Have an excellent week.

HIM, “In Joy and Sorrow”

Good morning! It’s Monday again.

I’m starting the Great Rewrite of Journey to the Water this week! In the meantime, you, dear reader, are nearing the end of the serial version. There will be a new chapter up on Patreon tomorrow, and last week’s chapter will be here for free reading on Wednesday.

A couple of petitions I’ve gathered today:

Via Win Without War: Enforce US law and save lives in Gaza

Also via Win Without War: Skip Israeli PM Netanyahu’s congressional address

Via Action Network: The US must welcome Palestinian refugees

If you’ve come across any actions to help Sudan and/or the Congo, please leave a link! I haven’t been able to find any.

I think that’s all for today. Thanks for stopping by.

Merci Raines, “The Devil Is a Gentleman”

Good morning!

I’ve finished the Great Reread of Journey to the Water, so I’ll be busy for the next couple of days creating a new outline. I wrote about this stage of my editing process here if you’re curious or think it might be helpful. Also, if you like that kind of content and want more of it, please let me know! Comments are open on every post. You’re all so silent, but WordPress tells me that you’re there. I don’t bite, I promise.

I still have a few more chapters of the original version of Journey to the Water for you, so there will be a new one up on Patreon tomorrow, and last week’s chapter will be up here on Wednesday.

Here’s the petitions I have rounded up today:

Via Demand Progress: Stop sending American-made bombs to Israel

Via the American Friends Service Committee: Act now for welcoming, dignified, and just immigration

Via Save the Children: Help child refugees survive and thrive

Via LeftClick: Pass the Trans Bill of Rights

I get a couple dozen petitions to my email inbox every day, so I’m focusing on sharing the ones that have to do with immediate or near-immediate threats to human life.

Thanks for stopping by! I love you, stay hydrated this week.

Cassyette, “Dear Goth”

Good morning!

Not much to report this week; I’m working on rereading Journey to the Water and will have a new chapter for you on Patreon tomorrow. Last week’s chapter will be up here on Wednesday.

I’m also thinking about posting some of my editing notes, if that’s something you might be interested in? Editing your own work is a skill that takes time and practice to develop (and you should always, always have at least one other set of eyes on it before it’s done), and maybe my notes and commentary might be helpful–or you just might be curious. I won’t pretend that I have all the answers, but I spent several years in academia, and I’ve developed a pretty good critical eye. I’ll see what I can round up for Friday.

A few petitions for this week:

Via Amnesty International: End US Complicity in Global War Crimes

Via MPower Action: Stop Genocide in Gaza

Via 350.org: Declare a Climate Emergency

Via HIAS: Support the Rights of Asylum Seekers

Thanks for being here. Stop by again soon!

Julian Moon, “Pomegranate Seeds”

Good morning and happy Pride!

I’m off to the library to print off my draft of Journey to the Water and make a substantial contribution to their operating costs in the process. While I start my reread, I’ll have a new chapter for you all up on Patreon tomorrow, and last week’s chapter will be here on Wednesday. That’s pretty much it for news this week. After how busy May was, I’m looking forward to June being a little more quiet.

I’m feeling rather like the proverbial broken record, but we’re still here:

Via MPower Action: Ceasefire in Gaza now!

Via Our Revolution: Permanent ceasefire now

Via Ekō: Stop the bloodshed – suspend arms sales to Israel (Warning: this link has a large image of several bodies under tarps.)

Via ADC: Biden must take immediate action

I wish you all the best this week. Thanks for being here.

Song of the Week

In This Moment, “Witching Hour”

Good morning! It’s Monday again. I hope you can rest for the holiday.

I had a great time hanging out with the alien interns at Studio Moonfall on Friday:

A small alien with large blue eyes and wearing a red beer cozy on its head hangs upside-down next to a copy of The Book of the New Moon Door.

I was also at Graveyard Gallery’s AniMAYhem on Saturday! It was a busy weekend to conclude a busy month, and I’m ready to take a break. I think my next event isn’t until July.

In the meantime, I’ll be editing Journey to the Water. The next chapter will be up on Patreon tomorrow, and last week’s chapter will be up here on Wednesday. I hope to have a better idea of a release date soon.

Also, the newsletter will go out Friday! If that’s something you’re interested in, you can put your email in the box at this link. Be sure to check your inbox for a confirmation. It’s only one email a month and does include pictures of my cats.

Just a couple of petitions this week, because we have to keep trying:

Via Our Revolution: President Biden, the moral choice and the electoral choice are the same — CEASEFIRE NOW!

Via Win Without War: Tell universities to divest from the war industry now

Also via Win Without War: Build Pressure in Congress to Get U.S. Weapons Out of Gaza

Thanks for being here and have an excellent week.

Burning Sister, “Get Your Head Right”

Good morning! Fun fact: Burning Sister features my cousins-in-law on drums and bass/synth/vox. I finally got around to listening to them. Please enjoy!

What the Hex: Witch of the Woods was yesterday! What the Hex is always a delightful time. The performances were great, the vibes were excellent, and the crowd was very friendly. I’m only sorry that I ran out of copies of The Book of the New Moon Door! I paid for expedited printing, but they won’t get here until Tuesday. I have a second, non-expedited order that is still at the printers, and I’m hoping it’ll be here by the end of the week.

I’ll be at Studio Moonfall (5031 7th Avenue, Kenosha, WI) on Friday the 24th from 4-7 in the evening for a Meet the Author event! Come hang out in this adorable indie bookshop with me. I’m bringing double-chocolate brownies, if that influences your decision.

On Saturday the 25th, I’ll be at Graveyard Gallery’s AniMAYhem from noon until 5. This one is outdoors at Faklandia Brewing, 3807 S Packard Ave, St. Francis, WI. I’ll have more on both these events on Thursday, so be sure to stop by again later this week.

I’ll have a new chapter of Journey to the Water up on Patreon tomorrow, and last week’s chapter will be up here on Wednesday.

Petitions for this week, because the work is never done:

Via Jewish Voice for Peace: NO to the Israel Security Assistance Support Act

Via Native Organizers Alliance: Listen to students and human rights experts

Via the US Campaign for Palestinian Rights: End the Nakba, End the Genocide

Via RootsAction: Divest from the War Industry Now

As always, I appreciate you. Have an excellent week.

AURORA, “The Seed”

Good morning!

Brooke and I had a great time at the Spring Sheboygan Spirit Fair! This Sunday, we’ll be heading out again to What the Hex: Witch of the Woods at Dresden Castle in Cudahy. I’m very excited for this event’s theme, because there are very few social occasions when I can wear my giant gardening/wizard hat. That link will have everything you need, but I’ll make another post later this week with addresses, admission, workshops, etc.

I’ll have a new chapter of Journey to the Water on Patreon tomorrow, and last week’s chapter will be up here on Wednesday. Our current arc will be a few more chapters, and then it’s on toward the end!

I’ve got a few petitions here that I’ve signed recently, and you might like to as well:

Via Demand Progress: No national guard on college campuses

Via Win Without War: Secure a ceasefire NOW

Via Justice Democrats: Broker a ceasefire in Gaza NOW

Via ADC: Immediate, permanent, and unconditional ceasefire

Thanks for stopping by. Have an excellent week.
