I’ve finished the 50,000 words required for National Novel Writing Month. Now it’s time to get to the end of Beyond the Frost-Cold Sea. I’ve got 11 days and about 30,000 words left.
Traditionally, the goal for National Novel Writing Month is 50,000 words in 30 days, usually of a brand-new project. I am trying to completely rewrite Beyond the Frost-Cold Sea for self-publishing. The version that lives here on the blog is just under 80,000 words, so I’m shooting for that higher goal by the end of the month. Hopefully I can get it published before Christmas!
I think I’m well on my way to finishing NaNo, and I’m staying on track for finishing this draft so far. If you’re writing, whether you’re doing NaNo or not, I wish you speedy writing and quiet time free of distractions!
2019 is finally over. It felt like February for about three months back there, and then it was August for a while, I guess, but time marches on regardless of whether I’m ready for it or even paying attention.
I did actually manage to accomplish a few things this year:
I started this blog, for one.
I’ve published 11 chapters of Beyond the Frost-Cold Sea here, as well as all the introductory material and two full chapters of The Well Below the Valley.
The latter is now hidden, because I did a scary thing and applied to host games at Midwinter Gaming Convention, and I was accepted! So I’ll be game-mastering Call of Cthulhu at the con in…two and a half weeks.
I am 170 pages into the second draft of my first book
I streamed many hours of Enderal: Forgotten Stories on Twitch, before being forced to stop by poor internet speeds.
I attempted NaNoWriMo for the first time and won!
I moved across town with my family.
I finally found a combination of medications that allows me to both get things done and sleep soundly, with side effects I can live with.
So, next year I’m going to try to keep this going. To that end, I hope to:
Finish this draft of my book, send it along to my beta readers, and get it ready for publication.
Do an awesome job at Call of Cthulhu at Midwinter.
Sing more, because it makes me happy and while I’m not good, I’m not so bad that it’s actively harmful to listen to.
Get back into playing the piano.
Finish Beyond the Frost-Cold Sea and get all the chapters of both that and The Well Below the Valley up here for your reading pleasure.
Maybe start a new free story?
Happy New Year! I hope 2020 brings everyone all the blessings they could want.
Happy Monday! It’s now December. This year has both been extremely long and flown by.
Last week, against all odds, I finished NaNo! I also received some Very Exciting News, which I promise I will actually tell everyone about soon.
In less exciting news, my sweet cat Odin was very sick last week. He seems to be back to his old self, but it was very scary there for a couple of days and he had to have a lot of tests done. If you have a few extra dollars and want to help me cover his vet costs, you can donate to my Ko-Fi, but please don’t feel obligated.
Happy Monday! It’s the last week of NaNo! One of the first books I ever read, when I was learning to read, was The Little Engine That Could. I feel a bit like the train in that book: “I think I can, I think I can, I think I can!” It’s amazing I still remember that mantra after so many years, and don’t remember stuff like…algebra.
I’ll be finishing up Chapter Two of The Well Below the Valley here on Wednesday. I hope you enjoy it; my players certainly did! They were thoroughly spooked and missed almost all the side plots in Chapter Three, they were so determined to stop the cult.
Some bad news in the Twitch department: my internet connection here isn’t strong enough to be able to stream live. It can more or less upload footage, but can’t do it in real time, which means that I won’t be able to interact with anyone in the chat. Streaming is going to be on hold until I can figure out how to fix it.
I hope to return to our regularly scheduled nonsense this week, which means the next chapter of Beyond the Frost-Cold Sea will be up Wednesday, and I’ll be on Twitch Thursday night.
I’m trying to stay on top of NaNo, so maybe my Friday update will be a positive one. We’ve passed the halfway point, so the pressure is on!
It’s been a rough week, and I’ve decided to count basically everything I write this month toward my total, regardless of what project it’s for. The good news is, I’m at 24,550 words today, which means I’m almost caught up! There’s a decent chance I can actually complete the challenge!
