Song of the Week

Orville Peck, “Big Sky”

Good morning!

Firstly, I am happy to announce that The Book of the New Moon Door is complete! I am the proverbial day late and a dollar short, of course, but it’s done. Final word count for all three parts, including chapter headings, is 170,764. This will probably change significantly as I go through the editing process this summer. New Moon Door has been the least structured of my serial novels (which is a gentle way of saying “I was definitely making this up as I went”), and I’m looking forward to pruning it into shape.

This week, I’ll have a new chapter of Journey to the Water on Patreon tomorrow, and the latest chapter of New Moon Door will be up here on the blog Wednesday.

As of right now, here’s the plan for all my projects going forward: Journey and New Moon Door will continue their biweekly schedule while I’m editing New Moon Door. I’m aiming to publish New Moon Door this year and Journey next year. In between those, I want to revisit The Well Below the Valley and The Tarot of the Gates, possibly rewriting and reformatting the former before writing some new content for it.

I’ll keep you updated as things progress! Thanks for being here, and have an excellent week.

Song of the Week

Daniel Hart, “Blome Swete Lilie Flour” (from The Green Knight)

Happy Monday!

It’s a holiday, so just a quick note. Tomorrow: The Book of the New Moon Door on Patreon; Wednesday: Journey to the Water here on the blog. Also on Wednesday, the May edition of the newsletter will go out around noon Central time, so make sure you’re signed up before then if you haven’t already!

I hope you’re enjoying your day. I appreciate you!

Song of the Week

Tom Morello, “16 Tons” (American folk song)

Good morning! Here’s a song with a lot of history.

I’m banging out the end of The Book of the New Moon Door this week! I’ll also have a new chapter of Journey to the Water on Patreon tomorrow, and the latest chapter of New Moon Door will appear here on Wednesday.

It’s getting toward the end of the month, so I have to plug my newsletter–don’t forget to sign up if you haven’t already! I send it only once a month, and it has writing and publishing updates as well as pictures of my garden and my cats. Put your email into the box at this link and then check your inbox for a confirmation link.

There won’t be a new episode of The Well Below the Valley out this month/June 1st, as I’m focusing all my writing time on finishing New Moon Door and staying on top of Journey. I’ll be getting back to it soon.

I think that’s all for this week. I think I promised some garden pictures last week and then forgot? So I’ll try to post some this week.

As always, I appreciate you! Stop by again soon.

Song of the Week

Tori Amos, “Sweet the Sting”

Good morning! It’s Monday again. It’s also planting day for me, so stay tuned for garden pictures.

I’ll have a new chapter of The Book of the New Moon Door up on Patreon tomorrow, and the latest chapter of Journey to the Water will be up here on Wednesday. My sprint to the end of New Moon Door continues: as of today, I’ve finished 17 of the 26 chapters in my new outline.

Thanks for stopping by! As always, I appreciate you.

The Renunciate, “When the World is Dead”

Good morning and happy Monday! Please enjoy this song, inspired by N.K. Jemisin’s The Fifth Season, one of my very favorite books. I met the band on Instagram, so if you like them, check them out!

Brooke and I went to What the Hex Witches’ Market on Saturday! It was a delight and a smashing success. Hello to everyone we met there!

For this week, I’m continuing to sprint towards the end of The Book of the New Moon Door. I’ll have a new chapter of Journey to the Water on Patreon tomorrow, though it may be a little later in the day than usual. The latest chapter of New Moon Door will be up here on Wednesday.

As always, thanks for being here, and have an excellent week!

Song of the Week

Aoife O’Donovan, “The King of All Birds”

Good morning and happy Monday!

I am happy to announce that I achieved my Camp NaNoWriMo goal of 30,000 words for the month of April.

A screenshot of the NaNoWriMo Stats page, showing 30379/30000 total words

I am about halfway done with Part Three of The Book of the New Moon Door! I’m setting another 30,000 word goal for May, to finish the draft.

On the subject of New Moon Door, the next chapter will post to Patreon tomorrow. I’ll have the latest chapter of Journey to the Water up here on Wednesday. Because I’m spending all my writing time on New Moon Door, there won’t be a new episode of The Well Below the Valley this month, but I hope to pick it up again soon.

In case you missed it, I’m going to What the Hex Witches’ Market on Saturday, May 6! You can find all the information you need, plus a sneak preview of my new bookmark, at this link. Entry is free! I hope to see you there.

As always, I appreciate you. Have an excellent week.

Song of the Week

Iris, “Hell’s Coming With Me”

Happy Monday! A bit of a throwback for this week’s song.

We’re still on the normal posting schedule for this week: a new chapter of Journey to the Water will be up on Patreon tomorrow, and the latest chapter of The Book of the New Moon Door (chapter one of Part Three!) will be available to read here on Wednesday.

Because I’m spending all my time working to finish New Moon Door, there won’t be a new episode of The Well Below the Valley on May 1st. The Well is the project with the fewest readers, so it’s the proverbial plate I’m letting drop. I might be able to get one out June 1st, but that will depend on how quickly I finish New Moon Door.

Also, if you haven’t already, sign up for my newsletter! It goes out once a month and contains pictures of my cats and my garden. The link will take you to a box where you can enter your email address, and then you’ll be sent a confirmation email. Be sure to click on the confirmation link, or you won’t be added to the mailing list.

Lastly, I’ll be at What the Hex Witches’ Market with Brooke of the Figuratively Speaking Tarot on May 6! I’ll have a post with more information later this week.

I think that’s all for now. Stop by again soon, and have an excellent week!

Song of the Week

Paris Paloma, “Labour”

Good morning!

This is a very exciting week, because Part Three of The Book of the New Moon Door is starting! The first chapter will post on Patreon tomorrow. The latest chapter of Journey to the Water will be up here on Wednesday.

I am four chapters into my sprint to the end of The Book of the New Moon Door, so wish me luck as I continue that this week.

In other news, I’ll be at the What the Hex Witches’ Market, along with Brooke of the Figuratively Speaking Tarot, on Saturday, May 6! It will be open from noon to 6pm at Falcon Bowl in Milwaukee. Here’s a link to the Facebook event, and here’s one to the Instagram page. As soon as I find out our booth number, I’ll let you know!

As always, thank you for being here, and have an excellent week.

Song of the Week

Hozier and Bear McCreary, “Blood Upon the Snow” (from God of War: Ragnarök)

You know, I’ve never played a God of War game, but this song makes me want to.

That’s going to have to wait, however, because I’m starting Part Three of The Book of the New Moon Door! I’ll post a NaNo update on Friday. The last chapter of Part Two will be up here on Wednesday. There will also be a new chapter of Journey to the Water on Patreon tomorrow.

Responses to the New Moon Door poll were sparse and mixed, so I think I will maintain the chapter-by-chapter posting schedule for now. I’ll reevaluate when Part Three is written (my goal is by the end of May), and maybe again when editing is done (late summer). If all the chapters haven’t been posted by then, I may save the ending for the published book 😉

Also, I’ll make a bigger announcement later, but I’ll be at the What the Hex Witches’ Market on May 6 at Falcon Bowl in Milwaukee! Mostly, I’ll be supporting Brooke and her Figuratively Speaking Tarot, but I’ll have a few copies of Beyond the Frost-Cold Sea to sell and sign and some bookmarks to hand out. Stay tuned for more details.

As always, thanks for being here, and have an excellent week.

Song of the Week

Eilís Ní Shúilleabháin, “A Ógánaigh An Chúil Chraobhaigh”

Happy Monday! Here’s a sad song.

I’m starting Part Three of The Book of the New Moon Door this week, but in the meantime, the last chapter of Part Two will be up on Patreon on Wednesday, and the latest chapter of Journey to the Water will make its appearance here on Thursday. The normal posting schedule is delayed this week due to the election on Tuesday, since I’ll be working at a polling place all day. If you have an election tomorrow, especially if you’re in Wisconsin, don’t forget to vote!

That’s all for this week. Stop by again soon!
