Song of the Week

Loreena McKennitt, “Between the Shadows”

Good morning and happy Indigenous People’s Day!

I am running on very little sleep, but I should have the next episode of The Well Below the Valley ready today. It’ll go up on Patreon on Wednesday. I’ll also be starting a new page of Last Watch Before Dawn this week, in which we’ll finally get some dialogue!

The audiobook of The Book of the New Moon Door is coming along. I think I can safely say that it will be out sometime in November, hopefully early. I’d love to have it ready so that it’s available for anyone who needs something to listen to during holiday travel. I’ll update you as the process goes!

I’ll be out and about this weekend, so if you’re free and in the Milwaukee area, I’d love to see you! First up is the Spooky Frog Horror Book Fair on Saturday the 18th. We’ll be at the Sheraton Milwaukee Brookfield Hotel from 11AM to 4PM. There will be horror authors as well as artists and craftspeople, free hors d’oeuvres while they last, and a live DJ set by Goth Barge. Entry is only $5. If you’re going to the protests that day, I wish you power and safety, whether or not you can find the time to stop by.

On Sunday the 19th, I’ll be at What the Hex: Dia de Muertos from noon until 5PM at Dresden Castle on Underwood, Cudahy, WI. Entry is only $3 and gets you access to the market, live performances, and workshops on magic and healing. What the Hex is always a fantastic time, so if you’ve never made it to one, I highly encourage it.

Some petitions:

Via No Business With Genocide: Stop the UAE from fueling genocide in Sudan

Via Civic Shout: Hold ICE accountable for civil rights violations

Via the National Campaign for Justice: Demand governors fight Trump’s attempts to deploy their National Guard

That’s all I’ve got for today. Take care, stay warm, and stop by again soon!

Song of the Week

Loreena McKennitt, “Ce He Mise le Ulaingt?/The Two Trees” (poem by William Butler Yeats)

Happy Monday! I hope you’re well.

This week, I’ll have a new chapter of The Book of the New Moon Door on Patreon tomorrow, followed by the latest chapter of Journey to the Water here on Wednesday. It looks like Part Two of New Moon Door is going to finish ahead of schedule (to the extent that I even have a schedule), probably before the end of the year. I’ll take a short break after that, and then it will be on to Part Three and the exciting conclusion.

Also, the newest episode of The Well Below the Valley will release on Thursday! If you’ve been thinking of becoming a patron, now’s a good time to do it, since you’ll get access to all five previous episodes as well. Or you could wait until Friday, get all six episodes, and not start getting charged the $3 subscription until October 1 (when you will also receive Episode 7). I won’t tell anyone.

I think that’s it for now. Preparations continue for Bitchcraft Fair on October 2, and I’ll let you know when I have more information about that!

Have an excellent week! I appreciate you.

Song of the Week

Loreena McKennitt, “Prologue”

Happy Monday!

The Official Reader Poll is still running! It will be open through Sunday, September 19. I will probably close it first thing next Monday morning. It’s pinned to the top of the blog home page, so it should be easy to find if you haven’t voted yet.

This week is going to be Shameless Self-Promo Week. I’ll be posting about all the material I have available, and you’re welcome to join in and tell me what you’re working on!

Have an excellent week.

Song of the Week

Loreena McKennitt, “All Souls Night”

Happy Monday! Here we are in the new year. Please enjoy this song, about beautiful festivals and the passing of the old and the welcoming of the new.

I will be on Twitch tonight making terrible commentary as my husband and streaming partner plays Mount and Blade II: Bannerlord. You can find our channel here. If you stop by and chat, you may see some cats as well. We’ll also be streaming on Saturday, but I haven’t decided what game yet. We might do more Darkest Dungeon.

There will be a new chapter of The Book of the New Moon Door here later this week! I’m trying for Wednesday, but we’ll see how my time management goes.

Song of the Week

Loreena McKennitt, “Coventry Carol” (traditional)

Happy Monday! I hope you are all staying safe and healthy. Please enjoy this, my favorite Christmas carol, and don’t think too hard about what that says about me as a person.

Because of the holiday, there will be no new chapter this week. We’ll rejoin Berend and Isabel and their search for Sterry the Bastard next week. I’ll probably do some year-end things next week as well.

Stay warm, and have an excellent week.

Song of the Week

Loreena McKennitt, “Dante’s Prayer”

It’s Monday again.

With the passing of Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, a lot of bad things are about to happen in America.

But they haven’t happened yet. Contact your senators and demand they do everything in their power to prevent another Trump appointee to a lifelong seat. Phone calls are the most effective; the Capitol switchboard is 202-224-3121.

Be prepared to march and keep an eye out for events in your area. Wear your mask!

Check your voter registration even if you’re pretty sure you’re registered. If you’re not, you can register here. At this stage, the best defense against voter suppression is overwhelming numbers. Due to Coronavirus, there will be a shortage of poll workers, so if you’re low-risk you can volunteer (and even get paid in some places): more information here.

I’ll compile more resources as I find them. I’ll also be back on Wednesday with the next chapter of The Book of the New Moon Door, for a bit of escapism.

Keep fighting the good fight.

Song of the Week: Double Feature

Loreena McKennitt, “The Lady of Shalott” (poem by Alfred, Lord Tennyson)

Emilie Autumn, “Shalott”

Happy Monday!

Here are two very different musical takes on the same figure in Arthuriana. I hope you enjoy them.

I’ll be back on Wednesday with another chapter of Beyond the Frost-Cold Sea. See you then!

Song of the Week

Loreena McKennitt, “The Mystic’s Dream”

Happy Monday! Today is my birthday, so I hope everyone is having a very good day. This week, we’re starting the next chapter of The Well Below the Valley, and things are about to get very serious for our intrepid investigators. I’ll also be on Twitch on Thursday.

My small family is going to be moving house in November. Hopefully, that won’t cause any disruptions to your regularly scheduled content, but I’ll be sure to post some kind of notice if I’ll be without Internet for any significant length of time.

I have a Ko-Fi! Blog content will always be free, but if you like what I do and want to help me keep doing it, please consider supporting me: https://ko-fi.com/madelinecrane

Song of the Week

Loreena McKennitt, “Penelope’s Song”

It’s Monday again. Funny how that happens. I won’t be streaming on Twitch tonight, as several forces have converged to give me too many things to do today, but I plan to stream Thursday evening instead. On Wednesday I’ll be posting the next chapter of Beyond the Frost-Cold Sea, so be sure to stop by again then.

On Friday and going into next week, I’ll be participating in the Global Climate Strikes, so there will be a brief hiatus while that is going on—I’ll have more information about that later this week.

Please enjoy this song, and have an excellent week.
