Song of the Week

Aoife O’Donovan, “The King of All Birds”

Good morning and happy Monday!

I am happy to announce that I achieved my Camp NaNoWriMo goal of 30,000 words for the month of April.

A screenshot of the NaNoWriMo Stats page, showing 30379/30000 total words

I am about halfway done with Part Three of The Book of the New Moon Door! I’m setting another 30,000 word goal for May, to finish the draft.

On the subject of New Moon Door, the next chapter will post to Patreon tomorrow. I’ll have the latest chapter of Journey to the Water up here on Wednesday. Because I’m spending all my writing time on New Moon Door, there won’t be a new episode of The Well Below the Valley this month, but I hope to pick it up again soon.

In case you missed it, I’m going to What the Hex Witches’ Market on Saturday, May 6! You can find all the information you need, plus a sneak preview of my new bookmark, at this link. Entry is free! I hope to see you there.

As always, I appreciate you. Have an excellent week.

Song of the Week

Annie Eve, “Bedtime”

Hello again! It’s Monday. Autumn has arrived early here, bringing a full day of rain and some minor flooding. While I wait for my towels to dry so I can sop up more water in my basement, how about an update for the week?

First things first: I have a new chapter of The Book of the New Moon Door that will be up on Patreon tomorrow, and the latest chapter of Journey to the Water will be here on the blog on Wednesday. Both projects will continue until they are done!

However, if you’re looking for something new and exciting, I have good news! My friend Brooke has recently published her first tarot deck, and we’re working on a collaborative book-and-deck project. I am excited to announce that both the (first?) book and the deck will be called The Tarot of the Gates. For more details and some worldbuilding, you can read last week’s post here. The first chapter will release October 1!

Also, in case you missed it, we’re going to be at booth 116 at Bitchcraft Fair Milwaukee! It will be at the Wisconsin Center on Sunday, October 2. I hope to see you there! It’s my first event, and I am both excited and scared, as you can tell by all the exclamation points.

Take care and have an excellent week!

Cat Power, “Cross Bones Style”

Hello! I hope you’re doing well this Monday morning.

This will be a pretty normal week around here: new chapter of The Book of the New Moon Door up on Patreon tomorrow, and the latest chapter of Journey to the Water will be up on the blog Wednesday.

I do have two news items, though! First, I’m starting Twitch streaming again with the Tea and Sidequests channel. The plan is for me to stream Fridays and talk about some aspect of fantasy writing. This week, I’ll be playing Totally Accurate Battle Simulator and discussing fight scenes. On Saturdays, my husband/streaming partner will be doing exercise challenges.

Second, we have a new kitten! Her name is Shepard and she is four months old. She’s already helping me work (when she isn’t walking across my keyboard).

Shepard, a brown-and-gray tabby kitten, lies next to a laptop with both paws draped across the keyboard.
Editor Shepard
Shepard receives belly rubs while reaching toward the camera with black toe-beans. Her eyes are brown with a little blue around the pupil.
She is very wiggly and never stops purring.

Solaire isn’t sure how to feel about her, but I think with time and patience they will become friends.

As always, thanks for being here, and have an excellent week.

Song of the Week

Matthew and the Atlas, “Out of the Darkness”

Happy Monday! I hope it looks like spring where you are, because it sure doesn’t here.

This week, I’ll have the latest chapter of Journey to the Water up on Wednesday. I’m working on the next chapter of The Book of the New Moon Door, and that will be up on Patreon when it’s finished.

In case you missed it, the first episode of The Well Below the Valley is available for download on Patreon only! Click here for a preview and more information.

I’m doing a writing challenge for the month of April over on Instagram, if that’s a thing that interests you. It will feature snippets of The Book of the New Moon Door and some fun images.

I think that’s it for this week. Thanks for stopping by!

Song of the Week

Laura Marling, “Night Terror”

It’s Monday again. It’s Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, also. The wheels of history turn toward justice, but slowly, and not without great effort.

Here’s what’s happening in my world this week:

I’ll be on Twitch tonight from 6pm until 8 Central time, if you’d like to stop by and chat. [ETA: no stream Thursday. See you next week!]

On Wednesday, I’ll have the latest chapter of Journey to the Water up! If you need to catch up, all available chapters are under the Stories tab above.

I’m finishing up the final formatting of Beyond the Frost-Cold Sea. I should have an update later this week, which will hopefully include information on paperback preorders.

I think that’s it! Have an excellent week.

Song of the Week

Iron & Wine, “Woman King”

Happy Monday! I hope you’re warm where you are, because the arctic wind is blowing here.

Have you read the latest chapter of Journey to the Water? I’ll have the next chapter up on Patreon this week.

Beyond the Frost-Cold Sea is getting closer to publishing! Stop back here later this week for another update.

I’ll be streaming on Twitch tonight and possibly Saturday night.

I think that’s it for this week. Stay warm!

Song of the Week

Poets of the Fall, “Carnival of Rust”

Welcome back!

This week, I’ll have Chapter IV of Journey to the Water up here on the blog on Wednesday, and another update on NaNo progress and how close Beyond the Frost-Cold Sea is to being a Real Book later in the week.

I had a great time talking about vampires with my friend Logan on the Patreon livestream this weekend. I’ll be doing one a month, with different topics and guests.

May your burdens be light this week.

Song of the Week

Penny and Sparrow, “Double Heart”

Happy Monday.

Here’s a semi-periodic reminder, to myself and anyone reading, to check your voter registration and find out who your representatives are so you can send them strongly-worded messages.

Here’s what’s happening in blog-land this week. There will be a poll where readers can tell me which project you would like to read next! Options will include the as-yet-unnamed sequel to Beyond the Frost-Cold Sea, The Book of the New Moon Door Part Two, and a couple of totally new things. Please keep an eye out for it tomorrow, because I need as many people as possible to vote! All you need is a device to view the post and an opinion. You can vote even if you haven’t read the two longer stories.

If you haven’t read the last chapter of The Book of the New Moon Door, it’s available under the Stories tab above, or just scroll down from here on the home page.

On Instagram, I’m doing a tarot-themed challenge, so if that’s something you’re into you can check it out: instagram.com/cranewrites Also, if you’re not following me over there yet, you should, because I post cat pictures at least once a week.

That’s all for now. See you soon, and have an excellent week.

Song of the Week

Talos, “Contra”

Happy Monday! I hope that wherever you are, you have delicious things to eat and shelter from the weathers.

Fun fact: last week’s chapter was this blog’s 200th post! This post is the 201st.

Things are calming down a bit around here. I’m hoping to get another chapter of The Book of the New Moon Door out this week, to make up for the long wait for the previous chapter, so check back here soon.

Thank you and have an excellent week.

Song of the Week

RY X, “Thunder”

Hello again. I hope you have shelter from the heat, if that’s a thing that’s affecting you. Please enjoy this song.

There will be a new chapter of The Book of the New Moon Door this week. I estimate we are three to four chapters from the end of Part One, after which I’ll take a break and start posting something else. If you need to catch up, all the chapters are under the Stories tab above, along with some other things to read. You can also check out the Modules tab if you’re into tabletop role-playing games.

See you soon, and have an excellent week.
