Song of the Week

Depeche Mode, “Personal Jesus”

On Saturday, I discovered that my orange boy, Solaire, had swatted my Bluetooth earbuds off the table. He then proceeded to chase one of them to places unknown. Because it was out of its case, the earbud connected to my phone, so in a rare stroke of genius I decided to turn the volume all the way up and play something loud so I could find it. This was the first song that came up that fit the bill.

Since the small object had stopped moving, Solaire was only mildly interested in the proceedings.

Anyway, my headphones have been recovered, and it’s Monday again. It’s horribly cold here, and the air is so dry that my nose keeps bleeding, so I hope you’re staying warm and have enough lotion to submerge yourself.

I’m also feeling my baby move! Relatedly, I have increased in size enough that a nice man held both doors open at the post office for me.

This week, I’ll be working on the next episode of The Well Below the Valley and doing some prep work for my comic, as well as a long-overdue Patreon cleanup. I’m hoping to have some good stuff over there soon–extra art, maybe stickers?–as well as the usual new chapters/episodes in advance.

Petitions have been thin on the ground lately, but here’s what I’ve got:

Via People for the American Way: Urge the House to reject anti-trans rules bill

Via Justice Democrats: Tell Biden to use the rest of his presidency to end the genocide in Gaza

That’s all for today. Thanks for stopping by!

Song of the Week

AURORA, “The Seed”

Good morning!

Brooke and I had a great time at the Spring Sheboygan Spirit Fair! This Sunday, we’ll be heading out again to What the Hex: Witch of the Woods at Dresden Castle in Cudahy. I’m very excited for this event’s theme, because there are very few social occasions when I can wear my giant gardening/wizard hat. That link will have everything you need, but I’ll make another post later this week with addresses, admission, workshops, etc.

I’ll have a new chapter of Journey to the Water on Patreon tomorrow, and last week’s chapter will be up here on Wednesday. Our current arc will be a few more chapters, and then it’s on toward the end!

I’ve got a few petitions here that I’ve signed recently, and you might like to as well:

Via Demand Progress: No national guard on college campuses

Via Win Without War: Secure a ceasefire NOW

Via Justice Democrats: Broker a ceasefire in Gaza NOW

Via ADC: Immediate, permanent, and unconditional ceasefire

Thanks for stopping by. Have an excellent week.

Song of the Week

Delerium, “Fallen Icons”

Good morning!

So, first things first: I have completely forgotten thus far to inform you that my short story, “The Howler,” was published in Strange Days Zine, Volume XIV! You can get a copy here. Also in this issue are accounts of encounters with cryptids, a ghost ship, and a UFO, the search for Amelia Earhart’s plane, a deep dive into the study of astral projection, and more wonders and weirdnesses present, past, and imaginative. (If my parents are reading this, hi, and I have a copy for you.)

Next: the Spring Spirit Fair is this Saturday (May 11) at Lakeshore Lanes in Sheboygan, WI. Doors open at 10 (you can come in at 9 to book an appointment with one of the readers), and admission is one non-perishable food item or cash donation to the Sheboygan County Food Bank. Brooke (of the Figuratively Speaking Tarot) and I will be there!

I’ll have a new chapter of Journey to the Water up on Patreon tomorrow, and last week’s chapter will be up Wednesday. The version that you’re reading now is complete! Editing will start next month. I’ll have a better idea of a publishing timeline then. In the meantime, I’m working on, in no particular order, a guidebook for the Figuratively Speaking Tarot, an outline for The Tarot of the Gates, the script for The Well Below the Valley, and maybe a new project or two?

The world goes on, and we do what we can to bend the arc of history:

Via ADC: Protect Palestinians and Pro-Palestinian voices

Via Win Without War: No National Guard on college campuses

Via Amnesty International: Palestinian journalists forcibly disappeared

Via Our Revolution: Ceasefire now

Via the US Campaign for Palestinian Rights: Demand University Administrators divest now and stop repressing student protests

As always, I appreciate you. Thanks for stopping by.

The Paul Schwartz Project, “How Many Fools”

Happy Monday! It is now less than TWO WEEKS until Bitchcraft Fair Milwaukee! My friend Brooke, her Figuratively Speaking Tarot, and I will be at booth #116 in the Wisconsin Center. You can find more information (and tickets) here.

I am doing my level best to maintain my posting schedule as I prepare for this event. The next chapter of Journey to the Water will go up on Patreon tomorrow, and the latest chapter of The Book of the New Moon Door will be up here on Wednesday. I am working on The Well Below the Valley also, but that may be the proverbial spinning plate that drops or gets postponed.

I did finish the first chapter of The Tarot of the Gates! Please appreciate my efforts at something resembling time management. That will be up here on October 1. There’s more information here, plus a picture of Shepard the kitten, if you haven’t seen it yet.

Thanks for being here! I promise I’m not scary, and I welcome comments. I’d like to get to know my readers! Please tell me your favorite book that you’ve read recently, or the music that’s making your ears happy these days, or whatever you’d like to talk about.

Song of the Week

Fever Ray, “Mercy Street” (Peter Gabriel cover)

Hello again! It’s Monday. I’m happy you’re here.

I’ll have a new chapter of The Book of the New Moon Door up on Patreon tomorrow. I’m working on the next chapter of Journey to the Water, and I should be back on the alternating posting schedule next week! Thank you for being patient with me.

I’m doing a challenge on Instagram that focuses on a WIP (work in progress), and of my several WIPs I chose New Moon Door. I made these portraits on Artbreeder and I’m very proud of them:

Two sepia-toned portraits showing half a face each: a white man with dark hair, a beard, and a strong jawline and a white woman with dark hair and a thin face. A red splatter covers the portraits.
Berend and Isabel

I couldn’t put an eyepatch on Berend, so the half-and-half was a compromise. I might make some Beyond the Frost-Cold Sea / Journey to the Water portraits later.

I think that’s it for today. Have an excellent week, and stop by again soon!

Song of the Week

Talos, “Contra”

Happy Monday! I hope that wherever you are, you have delicious things to eat and shelter from the weathers.

Fun fact: last week’s chapter was this blog’s 200th post! This post is the 201st.

Things are calming down a bit around here. I’m hoping to get another chapter of The Book of the New Moon Door out this week, to make up for the long wait for the previous chapter, so check back here soon.

Thank you and have an excellent week.

Song of the Week

Soap&Skin, “Me and the Devil” (Robert Johnson cover)

Happy Monday.

I’m working on getting a new chapter out for you all as soon as I can, but between moving and my day job, I haven’t had time for writing or social media. Please be patient, and if you’re not caught up yet, now’s a good time! There are also more things to read under the Stories and Modules tabs above. Check back here soon.

Thank you for your continued patience, and have an excellent week.

Song of the Week

RY X, “Thunder”

Hello again. I hope you have shelter from the heat, if that’s a thing that’s affecting you. Please enjoy this song.

There will be a new chapter of The Book of the New Moon Door this week. I estimate we are three to four chapters from the end of Part One, after which I’ll take a break and start posting something else. If you need to catch up, all the chapters are under the Stories tab above, along with some other things to read. You can also check out the Modules tab if you’re into tabletop role-playing games.

See you soon, and have an excellent week.

New Order, “Blue Monday”

It’s Monday again.

I will do my best to get a new chapter of The Book of the New Moon Door out this week, hopefully Wednesday or Thursday. We’re heading toward the end of Part One!

No streaming this week–Amazon workers are striking, and Twitch is an Amazon subsidiary. Please help them out by not crossing the picket line: don’t shop on Amazon or use Prime. Tea and Sidequests will be back next Monday (the 15th).

Have an excellent week.

Song of the Week

London Grammar, “Leave the War With Me”

Happy Monday!

This week, I’ll be posting all the rest of the introductory material for The Well Below the Valley. You’ll meet the four player characters who braved the adventure with me and see how I introduced each of them to the mystery plot, plus the first of many handouts. Please enjoy this song, which I chose as the unofficial theme song for the campaign.

I’ll be on Twitch this evening playing Enderal, so feel free to stop by!
