In solidarity with the nationwide strike, there will be no new comic page today. I encourage you to also participate to the greatest extent you are able!
Not much to report; I’m still working on the next page of Last Watch Before Dawn and the next episode of The Well Below the Valley. If you’re not caught up on either of those things, now’s a good chance! Head on over to the Stories tab above (under the Menu if you’re on mobile).
On Sunday, September 21, I’ll be heading out to the Kenosha Book Festival one more time. Here’s the website and here’s the Facebook event. Back in July, it was nearly ninety degrees out, so I’m hoping for a pleasant fall day. I’ll be joining a collection of local & indie authors across from Studio Moonfall, 5031 7th Ave., in Kenosha, WI from 10 until 3. There will also be a huge used book sale, and the first 100 guests get a goody bag, so plan to be there early!
Scorpio Market 2024 was a lot of fun! It was nice to be back in Madison, and I met so many cool people. I look forward to going back! I also look forward to not having any markets for the rest of the year.
I am very close to being done with the rewrites of Journey to the Water, and when that happens, I’ll give you a release date. While I’m working on formatting, I can show you the cover and the first chapter. Thank you so much for your continued patience. I think the wait will be worth it.
If you’re struggling, I’ve got a post pinned over on Instagram with some support lines. Don’t give up without a fight. Don’t comply in advance.
And if you feel the need to stand up and be counted, here are some petitions:
Also, tomorrow is the primary election for us Wisconsin folks, so be sure to get out and vote! We’re trapped in a two-party system, but primaries are among the best ways to put a hand on the wheel of power. There are also a couple of referendum questions on our ballot. Here’s a fairly nonpartisan explainer.
Rewrites of Journey to the Water continue. While I’m working on that, I’ll have a fun preview of one of my new projects up later this week, probably Friday.
I’ve finished the Great Reread of Journey to the Water, so I’ll be busy for the next couple of days creating a new outline. I wrote about this stage of my editing process hereif you’re curious or think it might be helpful. Also, if you like that kind of content and want more of it, please let me know! Comments are open on every post. You’re all so silent, but WordPress tells me that you’re there. I don’t bite, I promise.
I still have a few more chapters of the original version of Journey to the Water for you, so there will be a new one up on Patreon tomorrow, and last week’s chapter will be up here on Wednesday.
I get a couple dozen petitions to my email inbox every day, so I’m focusing on sharing the ones that have to do with immediate or near-immediate threats to human life.
Thanks for stopping by! I love you, stay hydrated this week.
Please send good vibes/prayers/etc. for the Covid test I’m taking later today. I was still positive on Thursday. I haven’t left the house in almost two weeks, and I’m very sad.
I’ll have a new chapter of Journey to the Water on Patreon tomorrow, and last week’s chapter will be up here on Wednesday. I’m still deciding what I’m going to do about the newsletter and a possible paid domain, so I’ll let you know when there are any updates on that.
A couple more petitions. I get them in my email, and they’re thinning out, which concerns me.
Ashley Eriksson, “Come Along With Me” (from Adventure Time)
Good morning! My husband has declared it time for a great Adventure Time rewatch, so please enjoy this song. I think we’re in Season 4 by now.
I am feeling better! Not quite 100% yet, but I’m able to stay awake through the day, which comes as a great disappointment to my cats. They love naps. Plus, with a human between them, they can both occupy the choicest napping spot (the bed) without having to see each other and engage in some kind of dispute. Apparently, a king-sized bed isn’t big enough for two cats (11.5 and 7.5 pounds in weight, respectively).
I found out about twenty minutes ago that the free Covid test program was suspended this past Saturday. I’m two days late to order more tests, and I’m very annoyed. I should have ordered more when I had my first positive test on Friday. Hindsight, 20/20, etc.
Anyway, I’m hoping I will continue to feel better and work on my draft of Journey to the Water this week. I’ll have a new chapter on Patreon tomorrow, and last week’s chapter will be up here on Wednesday.
Good morning! It’s Monday again, so here’s a song.
I’m nearing the end of the Great Rewrite of The Book of the New Moon Door and will be finishing it up this week or early next week. Then comes the last edits and all the formatting. In the meantime, I’ll have a new chapter on Patreon tomorrow, and last week’s chapter will be up here on Wednesday.
While I was writing this, the news broke that the death toll in Gaza has broken 10,000. Please contact your representatives to demand an immediate ceasefire. Here’s Amnesty International’s petition.
Several states have elections tomorrow! Here’s a handy list from Ballotpedia. In Wisconsin, it’s the spring primary. Since I’ll be working at a polling place all day tomorrow, I’m bumping my chapter releases forward a day: Journey to the Water will post on Patreon on Wednesday, and The Book of the New Moon Door will post here on Thursday. Be sure to vote!
There has been an outbreak of homophobia in the online book world, so I’ll take this opportunity to inoculate this space: I’m bisexual, many of the people I love are also LGBTQ+, and I have a zero-tolerance policy for bigotry of any kind. I used to argue with people online, now I just unfollow and block. If your interpretation of religion is more important to you than treating your fellow humans with respect, then maybe that’s something you should work on in your own space.
As always, thanks for being here, and have an excellent week.
