Song of the Week

Arum Rae, “If I Didn’t Know Better”

Good morning!

First things first: I’ll be at What the Hex: Vampire this Sunday at Dresden Castle on Underwood (Cudahy, WI). Admission is free, and doors open at 11 AM! There will be workshops, a drag performance, and a whole collection of magical artists, makers, and craftspeople. Here’s a link to the Facebook event and one to the event’s Instagram page for more information.

I’ll have a new chapter of Journey to the Water up on Patreon tomorrow, and last week’s chapter will be up here on Wednesday. This month and next month, I’ll be working hard to finish this draft! Also on Instagram, I’m participating in a daily posting challenge that features this book, if you’re interested in that sort of thing.

More petitions today:

Tell Biden to end US complicity in genocide

Tell Biden & Secretary Blinken to restore funding to UNRWA

Thanks for being here, and have an excellent week.

Fiona Apple, “I Know”

Good afternoon! I had an appointment this morning, so here’s all of this, starting with a song.

Journey to the Water continues this week: new chapter on Patreon tomorrow, and last week’s chapter will be up here on the blog on Wednesday. I’m also working on a new version of The Well Below the Valley, but I don’t have any news in that regard at the moment.

I hope you’re enjoying The Book of the New Moon Door! If you have a minute, be sure to leave a review on whatever platform you like best.

I guess this has turned into a space where I share petitions, so here’s another: ask the White House to stop supplying white phosphorus weapons to Israel

I think that’s all for today. I appreciate you, and assure you that all my content is created without the use of AI. Whether it uses any regular intelligence is a different matter entirely.

Hozier, “De Selby (Part 1)”

Good morning!

I’m continuing to work on The Book of the New Moon Door. I’ll be back at the end of this week with an update on an estimated release date. The short version: this is a big book (not Wheel of Time doorstopper big, but about twice as long as Beyond the Frost-Cold Sea), and an October release date is probably out of reach, but I plan to prepare some extremely fancy signed preorders for my two events in October.

In the meantime, I’ll have a new chapter on Patreon tomorrow and last week’s chapter here for free reading on Wednesday. I hope you’re enjoying the serial version, and I hope you’ll enjoy the published version more.

Thanks for being here! Have an excellent week.

Song of the Week

The Black Keys, “Have Love, Will Travel” (Richard Berry cover)

Good morning!

The newsletter is going out at noon my time (US Central Daylight), so if you haven’t signed up yet and want event news and additional cat pictures, be sure to sign up here before then. (It’s supposed to be an embedded form, but WordPress and MailerLite aren’t getting along.)

August is going to be the month of rewriting The Book of the New Moon Door, so I’ll be getting ready for that today and starting this week. In the meantime, there will be a new chapter on Patreon for your reading enjoyment tomorrow, and the latest chapter of Journey to the Water will be up here on Wednesday. New Moon Door may take all of my waking hours this month, but I’m planning to stay on top of the alternating posting schedule. I’ll let you know if that changes.

Also, please wish Brooke safe travels today, as she’s heading back from Witch City Tarot in Salem!

Thanks for being here! Have an excellent week.

Song of the Week

Leon Bridges, “Smooth Sailing”

Good morning! The Arctic chill is moving on, at least for now, and the sun is shining. I never listen to the groundhog, because here it will be at least six more weeks of winter regardless of what he sees when he pops out of his burrow. I hope you are well.

I’ll have a new chapter of Journey to the Water up on Patreon tomorrow, though it might end up being a little late. The latest chapter of The Book of the New Moon Door will be here on Wednesday at the usual time (noonish).

Just a short update today. Have an excellent week!

Song of the Week

Beth Rowley, “Wretched Body”

Happy Monday! I hope you are well this morning.

This week, I’m working on getting the newsletter out, as well as the next episode of The Well Below the Valley. The latest chapter of The Book of the New Moon Door will be here on the blog on Wednesday, and my normal posting schedule will resume next week! Thank you for being patient with me.

Keep an eye out for a newsletter signup post later this week! A lot of you are already subscribed to this site via WordPress or email, which notifies you every time I post something. The newsletter will be monthly and have more of a general overview of what I’m working on, events I’ll be attending, and publishing news. You can subscribe to either or both! (Or neither, I’m not a cop.)

Thanks for being here, and have an excellent week.

Song of the Week

Nina Simone, “Blackbird”

Good morning.

The new kitten, Shepard, is settling in very well! She’s out of her confinement room full-time now, with only a little scrambling around at night, and Solaire plays with her pretty regularly. He’s not ready to snuggle with her, though, and will bite her toes if she tries.

Two cats sleep back to back on a dark green couch, curled into semi-circles. On the left is a four-month-old gray tabby with orange patches, and on the right is a chunky orange and white cat, who is sleeping on a stack of notebooks because he's weird like that.
This is the closest they’ve gotten so far.

This week, I’ll have a new chapter of Journey to the Water up on Patreon tomorrow, and the latest chapter of The Book of the New Moon Door will be up here on the blog on Wednesday. I’ll also be on Twitch on Friday evening to play a game and chat about writing!

As always, I appreciate you. If you like what you read here, could you tell your friends about me? Word-of-mouth really helps me find more readers! And if you’ve read Beyond the Frost-Cold Sea, you can leave a review wherever you purchased it.

Have an excellent week!

Song of the Week

Etta James, “I’d Rather Go Blind”

Hello again. It’s Monday.

The latest chapter of Journey to the Water will be up on Patreon tomorrow (Tuesday), and the new chapter of The Book of the New Moon Door will be up here on the blog on Wednesday.

Sad news below the cut:

Howlin’ Wolf, “Smokestack Lightnin'”

It’s Monday again.

There are things happening this week! Tomorrow, the new chapter of The Book of the New Moon Door will be available on Patreon. On Wednesday, the latest chapter of Journey to the Water will be up here on the blog. For the foreseeable future, I’ll be alternating between the two, and chapters will go up first on Patreon and then here a week later.

Have you gotten your copy of Beyond the Frost-Cold Sea yet? If you haven’t, check out my fancy new sidebar over to the right (or at the bottom of the page, if you’re on mobile). If you have, and you are so inclined, I’d appreciate you leaving a review on whatever platform suits you best. It will help new readers find the book! I’ll talk more about reviews in a separate post later this week.

I think that’s all for today. Have an excellent week, and stop by again soon!

Nina Simone, “Black is the Color of My True Love’s Hair” (Scottish-American folk song)

Happy Monday! It’s Valentine’s Day, so in honor of the beheaded performer of marriages, tell someone you love them and be sure to pick up half-priced chocolate tomorrow.

This week, the next chapter of Journey to the Water will be up on Patreon. In other news, Part Two of The Book of the New Moon Door is starting on Patreon next week and here on the blog the week after! I’ll be alternating between Journey and New Moon Door until one or both are finished. Patreon subscribers will be getting each chapter a week early, so if you haven’t yet, consider subscribing! There will also be a Patreon-exclusive project coming in March.

That’s all for now! Thanks for being here.

P.S. If you still need to catch up on Part One of The Book of the New Moon Door, you can start with the first chapter here or find all the chapters under the Stories tab above.
