If you’re here from Bitchcraft Fair, welcome! And if you signed up for the newsletter, be sure to check your inbox for a confirmation email. I’ll be sending them out right after I post this.
While I work on getting The Book of the New Moon Door ready for publication, you can read the serialized version here. There will be a new chapter on my Patreon tomorrow, and last week’s chapter will be up here to read for free on Wednesday. All the previous chapters live under the Stories tab above (under the Menu if you’re on mobile). The published version will differ in several ways from the serial version, but there may still be spoilers.
Whether this is all old news to you, or if it’s your first time here, I appreciate you. Have an excellent week.
Lacuna Coil, “Enjoy the Silence” (Depeche Mode cover)
Good morning!
Bitchcraft Fair is this Sunday! A delightful selection of magical artists and craftspeople will be gathering at the Wisconsin Center in Milwaukee from noon until six. Here’s a link for advance tickets and more information. Brooke and I will be in Booth 204. Brooke has new cards (including a Dungeons and Dragons alignment set), and I’ll be opening preorders for The Book of the New Moon Door. Hope to see you there!
In the meantime, there will be a new chapter on Patreon tomorrow, and last week’s chapter will be up here on Wednesday.
Brooke and I are attending two markets next month!
The first is Bitchcraft Fair, which will take place Sunday, October 8 at the Wisconsin Center. Tickets are $12 in advance ($15 for the VIP skip-the-line experience) and $15 the day of–morehere. In addition to shopping, this market offers trick-or-treating, a photobooth for your Halloween costumes (one picture is included!), and magical workshops! Doors open at noon and close at six.
The second is What the Hex Witches’ Market (Autumn Edition) on Sunday, October 22 at Dresden Castle on Underwood. Admission is free, and the workshops are magical and very affordable. There will also be live music and drag performers! Similarly, doors open at noon and close at six.
Brooke has a ton of new cards, and I’ll be opening preorders for The Book of the New Moon Door (more info on that here). We hope to see you at one or both markets!
P.S. I forgot to mention that the newsletter is going out tomorrow, so if you’d like to get in on that, put your email in the box at this link.
I am excited (and a little chagrined) to announce that The Book of the New Moon Door will release, come hell or high water, on December 15, 2023.
I very much wanted to manage an October release, but life circumstances and my inability to estimate how long a task will take got the better of me. I’m just about finished with the rewrites of Part One, which is the longest portion of the book. Parts Two and Three should proceed quickly and comparatively smoothly. I plan to have my files ready to submit by mid-November, giving me a whole month for approval and ordering proofs. (For comparison, I submitted my files two weeks in advance of Beyond the Frost-Cold Sea‘s release date, a window of time I do not recommend in the slightest.)
So, what does that mean for the two markets I’ll be attending next month? The first will be Bitchcraft Fair on Saturday, October 8, and the second is What the Hex on Sunday, October 22. (Links will take you to the Facebook events. I’ll have more information on both as we get closer!) I will have a form for preorders of The Book of the New Moon Door, which will be signed, wrapped, tied up with string, and sealed with my Space Whales Press seal, pictured above. Listen, everyone loves book mail, but book mail in an antiquated package is even better. I’ll have a mockup for you soon, so stay tuned! If you preorder at either of these events, you should receive this package via USPS Media Mail in early December, before the book goes live to online retailers.
If you can’t make it to either market, and you’d like to receive Fantasy Bookmail that must be unsealed like a secret missive, I should have extra copies toward the end of November or beginning of December that I will make available here on the website. I’ll have more information on that once my files are formatted and approved.
I hope that these special preorders will delight you. I truly appreciate your patience with me, and I am working hard to make The Book of the New Moon Door worth the wait. Thanks for being here, and stay tuned for more updates.
Bitchcraft Fair happened! I signed 20 books (18 of them for new readers) and handed out over 200 bookmarks. If you’re here from one of those things, welcome! It was so lovely to have the opportunity to talk about my book and meet some awesome people. My table partner, Brooke, did some great Tarot readings and sold quite a few of her beautiful cards. Here is her link.
Tomorrow, I’ll have a new chapter of The Book of the New Moon Door up on Patreon. We’ll be back to the usual posting schedule next week, and I appreciate your patience.
As always, thanks for being here, and have an excellent week.
Come see us at the Wisconsin Center, third floor, Hall B! Brooke of the Figuratively Speaking Tarot and I will be in Booth #116! There will also be trick-or-treating, costume photos, and concessions, as well as a TON of other makers and mystics for you to meet! More info, directions, and parking can be found here.
With the terrible book in my hands, I retraced my steps through the neglected garden and returned to the palace. A cold wind had come in from the sea as the sun set, and the strange warmth of the book’s leather binding cooled until it felt like the skin of a dead man. I considered throwing it from the ship as soon as I reached open water. I could only guess at its contents, but I was filled with the grim certainty that it was an evil book, and I would find no help in its pages that did not cost me my very soul.
So, last week, we had a very large, very sickly tree removed from our yard. Unfortunately, while doing so, the tree service completely destroyed the majority of our garden. I was devastated and spent the week doing emotional yard work to clean up the damage and prepare for next spring (the fall harvest was ruined). This, and the resultant blisters and sore muscles, cut into my writing time last week, so there’s been a minor disruption to the posting schedule.
The latest chapter of Journey to the Water will be up here on Wednesday. There won’t be a new chapter of The Book of the New Moon Door until next week, and the upcoming episode of The Well Below the Valley has been pushed to November. For a while, I thought that I could get it out October 1 along with getting ready for Bitchcraft Fair and releasing the first chapter of The Tarot of the Gates at the same time, but I think that was too ambitious even before all this happened.
Speaking of Bitchcraft Fair, it is happening LESS THAN ONE WEEK FROM NOW. Here is a link where you can get tickets and find out more!
Also, the exciting preview of The Tarot of the Gates will be available October 1 as planned. You can go to my Instagram to find out about the setting and the accompanying deck!
I think that’s it for this week. Thank you for being patient with me, and if you’ll be in the Milwaukee area, I hope I’ll see you on Sunday!
Happy Monday! It is now less than TWO WEEKS until Bitchcraft Fair Milwaukee! My friend Brooke, her Figuratively Speaking Tarot, and I will be at booth #116 in the Wisconsin Center. You can find more information (and tickets) here.
I am doing my level best to maintain my posting schedule as I prepare for this event. The next chapter of Journey to the Water will go up on Patreon tomorrow, and the latest chapter of The Book of the New Moon Door will be up here on Wednesday. I am working on The Well Below the Valley also, but that may be the proverbial spinning plate that drops or gets postponed.
I did finish the first chapter of The Tarot of the Gates! Please appreciate my efforts at something resembling time management. That will be up here on October 1. There’s more information here, plus a picture of Shepard the kitten, if you haven’t seen it yet.
Thanks for being here! I promise I’m not scary, and I welcome comments. I’d like to get to know my readers! Please tell me your favorite book that you’ve read recently, or the music that’s making your ears happy these days, or whatever you’d like to talk about.
Hello again! It’s Monday. Autumn has arrived early here, bringing a full day of rain and some minor flooding. While I wait for my towels to dry so I can sop up more water in my basement, how about an update for the week?
First things first: I have a new chapter of The Book of the New Moon Door that will be up on Patreon tomorrow, and the latest chapter of Journey to the Water will be here on the blog on Wednesday. Both projects will continue until they are done!
However, if you’re looking for something new and exciting, I have good news! My friend Brooke has recently published her first tarot deck, and we’re working on a collaborative book-and-deck project. I am excited to announce that both the (first?) book and the deck will be called The Tarot of the Gates. For more details and some worldbuilding, you can read last week’s post here. The first chapter will release October 1!
Also, in case you missed it, we’re going to be at booth 116 at Bitchcraft Fair Milwaukee! It will be at the Wisconsin Center on Sunday, October 2. I hope to see you there! It’s my first event, and I am both excited and scared, as you can tell by all the exclamation points.
