Song of the Week

Tori Amos, “Winter”

Good morning!

I had a lovely time at What the Hex yesterday and Story Keepers Books on Saturday! Thank you to everyone who braved the cold. I think I’ll be taking a bit of a break from events for a couple of months, but I will keep you posted.

I’m working on another page of Last Watch Before Dawn, which will be up tomorrow! Someday I will learn how to manage my time enough to maintain a backlog of content for you, but not today.

A couple of petitions for today:

Via National Campaign for Justice: Demand Congress investigate, expose, and hold ICE accountable now

Via Win Without War: Pass the West Bank Violence Prevention Act

Via the Juggernaut Project: Save our healthcare

I’ll be back tomorrow! In the meantime, stay warm, and have an excellent week.

Queens of the Stone Age, “No One Knows”

I apologize for the video thumbnail staring into your soul.

I’ll have some Bonus Art for you tomorrow on Patreon, and a new page of Last Watch Before Dawn by the end of the week. I’ve just finished the first “chapter,” and we’re moving on to meeting some new characters next.

This weekend, I will be out and about! Story Keepers Books is having their first anniversary sale this weekend, and they’ve invited some local authors to help celebrate. I’ll be there on Saturday from 10 until noon: 7035 W. Greenfield Ave., West Allis, WI.

On Sunday, I’ll be at the final What the Hex for the year, noon until 5 at Dresden Castle on Underwood, Cudahy, WI. Entry is $3, and gets you access to a whole market of artists, craftspeople, and readers, as well as free workshops and performances!

I’ll be back to remind you about these events later this week.

Also, a reminder: paperbacks are still on sale through the end of the year!

A few petitions for today:

Via More Perfect Union: Protect affordable healthcare

Via Avaaz: Free Dr. Abu Safiya

Via Civic Shout: Stop Trump from bombing Venezuela

Via CHN Action: Reverse SNAP cuts

I think that’s all for today. Stay warm, and stop by again soon!

Wilsen, “Sirens”

Good morning!

Brief catch-up in case you missed it: The Book of the New Moon Door is showing up on various audiobook platforms, and paperbacks of all my books are on sale until the end of the year.

I’ll have another page of Last Watch Before Dawn for you tomorrow. It will be the last page of this first chapter, so next up will be some bonus art, and then we’ll be moving onward and forward and meeting some new characters! I’ll try to get the bonus art out later this week, but you may have to give me some grace around the impending holiday. I have so many pies to make. Going forward, I am going to try to stick to a posting schedule of Tuesdays and Fridays with (hopefully) minimal interruptions.

A couple of petitions:

Via CHN Action: Demand Congress reverse SNAP cuts

Via the Workers Circle: Shut down Alligator Alcatraz

Via No Business With Genocide: Stop the UAE from fueling genocide in Sudan

I’ll be back soon with more comic. In the meantime, take care and stay warm, and I hope you have plenty to eat whether or not you’re observing Thanksgiving.

Hozier, “Empire Now”

Good morning!

In case you missed it, The Book of the New Moon Door is now available on more audiobook platforms. It may also be available from your library’s digital catalogue! If it’s not, you can always request to be notified if and when it’s available. If enough people do that, the library will buy a copy.

I’m working on another page of Last Watch Before Dawn, and I should have it ready by Wednesday. I’m hoping to get to a pace of two or more pages per week, so as to finish the first volume before the heat death of the universe.

On Saturday, I’ll be at Story Keepers Books in West Allis, WI for a Meet the Author event! The address is 7035 W Greenfield Ave, and the event runs from noon until 3. Bring books for me to sign! The shop has a few, also. More information can be found here.

A couple of petitions:

Via Women’s March: Abolish ICE

Via IfNotNow: Stop home demolitions in Umm al-Khair

Via CHN Action: Governors must demand SNAP funding

Via Civic Shout: Call for an immediate ceasefire in Sudan

That’s all I have for today! I’ll be back later with more comic, and I hope to see you at the bookshop on Saturday.

The Decemberists, “Won’t Want for Love (Margaret in the Taiga)”

Good morning!

This week, I’ll be finishing up Episode Three of The Well Below the Valley and working on an outline/script for the first issue of the comic, which now has a title: Chrysanthemum Dawn. In case you missed it, Episode Two of The Well can now be read for free here.

My first event of the year will be Saturday, February 22: the Spooky Frog Horrifying Book Fair! I’ll be amongst an eclectic collection of other horror authors and spooky artists at The Factory, 1120 S Barclay St, Milwaukee. Admission is only $3, and the event runs from noon until 5.

Also, you can find my books on the shelves at Storykeepers Books in West Allis! I’ll be there for a talk in March, so I’ll have more information about that later. I’m very excited to be working with another independent book store.

I am incredibly overwhelmed with everything that has been happening, but here’s something I can do:

Via Demand Progress: Block funding for the deporation machine

Via the American Friends Service Committee: Stop deportations now

Via Rep. Rashida Tlaib: Demand Palestinian self-determination and liberation

Via Action Network: Defend birthright citizenship

Via the US Campaign for Palestinian Rights: Hands off Palestine

The petitions I share are based on the roughly 200 emails I receive every day, and all the important issues are not covered (e.g., I’m very concerned with the stripping of rights from our trans friends and siblings). If you have some helpful things to share, please do!

Okay. That’s all for today. I love you, thanks for being here, be gentle with yourself and others this week.

Upiko, “CROW”

It’s Monday again. Hi.

This week, I’m finishing my rewrites of Journey to the Water. I am planning to report back once I’ve done that with a release date. While I work on formatting and final edits, I can show you the cover and offer some tantalizing previews. Again, I truly appreciate your patience as I work to get this book into your hands.

If you’re waiting on a Figuratively Speaking Mermaid Tarot deck, good news! As of the last Kickstarter missive (Saturday), the decks are now #22 in the printing queue! (I think they started in the mid-400s.) If you’re not waiting for one now, this also means that they’ll be available for sale soon. I’ll update you as soon as I know more.

Petitions I’ve gathered this week:

Via LeftClick: Support the Trans Bill of Rights

Via MPower Action: Tell Congress to Oppose H.R. 9495 (again)

Via USCPR: Block $20 billion in weapons to Israel

Take care of yourselves this week, and check back again soon!

The Pretty Reckless, “Heaven Knows”

It’s Monday again. I’m so tired.

Scorpio Market 2024 was a lot of fun! It was nice to be back in Madison, and I met so many cool people. I look forward to going back! I also look forward to not having any markets for the rest of the year.

I am very close to being done with the rewrites of Journey to the Water, and when that happens, I’ll give you a release date. While I’m working on formatting, I can show you the cover and the first chapter. Thank you so much for your continued patience. I think the wait will be worth it.

If you’re struggling, I’ve got a post pinned over on Instagram with some support lines. Don’t give up without a fight. Don’t comply in advance.

And if you feel the need to stand up and be counted, here are some petitions:

Via Win Without War: Support a just migration policy

Via RootsAction: Hands off Sudan

Via Demand Progress: Stop the $20 billion weapons sale to Israel

Via EveryLibrary: Save libraries, stop Project 2025

I’m happy you’re here. I hope this week treats you well.

Song of the Week

Hozier, “Francesca”

Good morning! I’m back!

The Figuratively Speaking Mermaid Tarot Kickstarter was a smashing success. Thank you so much to everyone who pledged. As soon as I hear from Brooke, I will let you know when you can expect your decks in the mail.

I will be working on Journey to the Water until it’s finally done, so you won’t hear much from me. I’ll stop by on Friday for an update.

This month, I’ll be attending What the Hex: Season of the Witch on October 20 in Cudahy, WI, and the Fall Fon du Lac Spirit Fair on October 26. Links lead to their respective Facebook events. I hope to see you there!

It’s October 7 again, and the bombs are still falling and the hostages still haven’t been returned. Tens of thousands are needlessly dead.

Via USCPR: Tell Congress to stop arming Israel

Via Win Without War: Urge President Biden to de-escalate this crisis

Via AFSC: Tell Congress to prevent regional war

That’s all I’ve got for today. Thanks for stopping by!

Song of the Week

The Buttress, “Brutus”

Some flashing lights at the beginning of the video, just so you know.

Good morning! It’s Monday again.

I had a great time at the Spooky Frog Horrifying Book Fair! The crowd was small but lovely, and it didn’t get too hot; the heat wave is here now, so I’m glad we just avoided it for the event.

The Figuratively Speaking Mermaid Tarot Kickstarter launches on Friday! Be sure you’ve saved the project in order to get the notification! The deck is gorgeous and I’m very excited to have been a (small) part of it.

I’m still working on Journey to the Water, and I’ll have a better update for you on that subject soon.

Petitions I’ve signed recently, and you might want to also:

Via No Business with Genocide: Tell your Members of Congress to support the Rohingya Genocide, Accountability, and Protection Act (H.R.8936)

Pass the Supporting Armenians Against Azerbaijani Aggression Act

Tell your Members of Congress to support the Uyghur Policy Act

Tell your Members of Congress to help end the genocide and other atrocities in Sudan

Tell Congress to pass the Uyghur Forced Labor Disclosure Act (H.R.4840)

Via Demand Progress: End American support for the war on Gaza

Via Not Another Bomb: Kamala Harris, Pledge to Enact an Arms Embargo

I think that’s it for today. Stop by again soon!

Song of the Week

Queens of the Stone Age, “The Lost Art of Keeping a Secret”

Good morning!

I spent the weekend at Anime 414, and I’m exhausted, but it was a great time! Hello to everyone I met there!

We now have an official launch date for the Figuratively Speaking Mermaid Tarot Kickstarter: August 30. I’ll be working on the guidebook this week.

Also, tomorrow is the primary election for us Wisconsin folks, so be sure to get out and vote! We’re trapped in a two-party system, but primaries are among the best ways to put a hand on the wheel of power. There are also a couple of referendum questions on our ballot. Here’s a fairly nonpartisan explainer.

Rewrites of Journey to the Water continue. While I’m working on that, I’ll have a fun preview of one of my new projects up later this week, probably Friday.

Petitions for this week:

Via Mercy Corps: Take urgent action to end the hunger crisis in Gaza

Via Win Without War: De-escalate crises in the Middle East now

Via Not Another Bomb, et al.: Kamala Harris, Pledge to Enact an Arms Embargo

That’s all I’ve got for today. As always, I appreciate you. Have an excellent week.
