I don’t really have anything coming up on the blog this week, so enjoy this song and have an excellent week.
Impending blog construction
I started this blog a little less than a year ago with two large projects in the works: The Well Below the Valley and Beyond the Frost-Cold Sea. Now that both of them are finished, it’s time to revisit the blog’s structure and make some improvements.
- Most importantly, the “Read my writing” tab will be divided into two tabs, one for stories and one for tabletop modules. As I write more projects and make them available, this will make navigation easier for readers.
- Tables of Contents will migrate to their new tabs, and the links at the top of individual chapters will be rerouted to the new pages.
- I will be adding image descriptions to all the pictures on the blog to make them more accessible.
- I will revisit my post tags and try to add more, to make individual posts easier to find.
- The “About me” page will be updated. Possibly with additional cat photos.
- I’ll try out some new color schemes and see if a new one would help with readability and general aesthetics.
New things that will be coming in the next month or so:
- Singer Lake, a one-shot campaign module for the Chronicles of Darkness/New World of Darkness system.
- Something video game related? Possibly videos? I keep saying that I’m going try to start streaming again.
- A new long-form story! It’ll be a surprise! (There will eventually be a sequel to Beyond the Frost-Cold Sea. I don’t know if you’ll read this statement as a reassurance or a threat, but there it is.)

Beyond the Frost-Cold Sea: Chapter XXVII
We made our way back to the gate, a grim procession through the rain and the rubble. Phyreios had truly and utterly fallen. There was nothing left of the temple at the foot of the mountain, once the city’s most magnificent structure. Of the arena, all that remained was a few broken pillars of soot-stained white marble, standing half-buried in a bed of broken stone. Over the husk of the city lay a miasma of smoke, and the rain brought up a thick fog. I could not see much farther than the reach of my arm. The Sword of Heaven hung heavy from my hand.

Bring Me the Horizon, “Follow You”
Happy Monday! The storms are rolling in here. I’m hoping for a break in the humidity when they pass.
What hasn’t passed is the movement: there are still protests happening in my city and across the country, though media attention has moved on. If you’re in the US, you can contact your representatives at every level. Ask them to defund the police. Say you’ll remember their responses when the next election rolls around.
I’ll be back on Wednesday with what should be the last chapter of Beyond the Frost-Cold Sea. I’m so excited to bring this story to a close. Next week, I’ll be talking about the future of the blog and some upcoming projects. (There may one day be a continuation of Frost-Cold Sea. The reasons why will be clear after this week’s chapter.)

Beyond the Frost-Cold Sea: Chapter XXV
Another shake rumbled beneath our feet, but the approaching figure did not stumble. I placed myself between the door and Khalim. We waited, hardly daring to breathe, as the footsteps echoing in the darkened corridor came nearer and nearer. Beyond the arena’s walls, weapons clashed and barricades were shattered as Reva’s miners confronted the city’s soldiers. I prayed to whatever god might be listening that they would be safe, and keep the Ascendeds’ forces from our backs.
I stood between Jin and Jahan, and each had his sword at the ready. The air hummed and shimmered between their blades. I could almost hear the magic contained within. I felt a lingering fear in the knowledge of the power of these weapons, as much as I was grateful for their presence. If one could kill a god, what would it do to me, should I find myself on the wrong end of it?
